New telly
It's fair to say that I know nothing about new televisions...I mean I have no idea which is best between Plasma, LCD, LED, hubble telescope etc...
I thought that Plasma ones had limited lifespans...but I don't know? But I thought that LCD ones had those dead pixel problems...
I know I should be looking at 1080p ones, I think. And because of all the furore over these 3D tellies, the price of other types has come down a lot. I've just finished decorating my living room and think a new goggle-box is in order.
So, what do people on here have and what is recommended?
Any gotchas or other things to take care about?
Any good/bad experiences of certain makes/models?
Currently I still have my 32" Sony Trinitron which is slowly on it's way out, so any help or suggestions are welcome.
Cheers,
STeaMy xx

Its still the same programs/stories/facts what ever you view it on. As long as its watchable and enjoyable.
We have a philips matchline 32" crt, heavy as a brick house, but very enjoyable to watch even though it has no digital inputs.
That's what I have been doing! It's now getting a purple blotch that is slowly filling up more of the screen...
you really have to be watching agod awful film to be going, doesn't that blacj look really good in the background.
saying that, transformers 3 in on its way. :p
what did he think was gonna happen when he stuck his finger in it, it was gonna come back to life?
(theres a joke about a dead prostitute in that sentance)
Although I have a rarely used 28 year old Hitachi portable that still works (that was used on my original speccy & 64)
the way things are with the economy now , you should be able to get a better deal.
I guess samsung pretty much took over sony's place as the best sold maker ? back in the day the sony stuff was better
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

Theres a lot to be said for the old crt tv's, my Ferguson 14" portable from the 80's is still going strong at my dads house, gets used most days (didnt even come with a remote that one!)
Mile has a point that you don't notice it after a while, but I think it can be quite jarring when you do go back to SD, especially for normal broadcasting - football is hugely noticeable SD to HD, and if you're 360 or PS3 gaming then there's a world of difference IMO.
Anyway, if you're looking for a good deal, always keep an eye on HotUKDeals www.hotukdeals.com as there are some amazing bargains to be found on there (plus you can make money back with Quidco - well worth the ?5 annual fee).
My best advice is go for the biggest screen you can afford, it's quite amazing how little space even a 42" takes up.
Superb for gaming ( no lag on black ops ), it's got built in hd freeview/freesat and more connection options than u can shake a stick at.
Put in a blu ray and you notice the difference instantly.
Don't really notice much difference between standard tv and hd channels but that's probably down to the virgin box upscaling everything very nicely.
I thought long and hard before buying as my old hitachi 32" crt was still good, but i'm glad I changed.
If you go to a big elctronics store you can compare screen types side by side and choose the what suits you best - then buy it cheaper somewhere else.
cheers
Yup.
If you wanna impress yourself/someone else, get The Dark Knight bluray, put it to one of the iMax scenes (Joker chasing down Dent in the truck is prob the best), put on a pair of cans and pump up the volume. Seriously, it's (almost) as good as being at the movies.
TDK bluray is prob the best quality one out there at present. Plus it's one of my favourite films of all-time!
