That'll be arse, and on principle I can't watch it, as I refused to watch the UK version a little while back when Mrs. Boozy was watching them.

But as it was on it the background and I heard bits n' pieces of it, I kinda wished I'd tried to watch it. Plus it has Leonora Critchlow in it, and for some reason I think she's quite foxy :D

aren't they doing a version of skins, or maybe they already have.

i think they did have a father ted planned, but the networks asked them to remove all the anti catholic jokes. which caused the writters to facepalm themselves to death.

I was skeptical at first, but the series grew on me, and enjoyed how the first US season played out.

It's certainly no travesty like the US Red Dwarf pilot was.

Also they did a US version of Shameless, which I really got into, unlike the original UK series which I never got round to watching.

here's a list of american show remade for the uk

and a list of show remade for US tv

seems they like our properly scripted shows, and we like their game shows.

i assume we just can't aford the rights to most of the good stuff the Us produces. :p

didn't realise there had been a blackadder remake. :)

Argh! It' doesn't look too bad, although it's pathetic how they have to EXPLAIN THE SUBTEXT for the dumb audience, but then they have to end the trailer with "An all-new original series" like Disney do. No it's not, it's a copy of an existing programme! It doesn't matter how many times you say it's "original", it doesn't make it original!

    scan international tv channels
    find tv show ideas
make pilot and use LOADS of writers and at least 1 big name actor
    check ratings of pilot
good ratings ? repeat until bored :)

I remember reading a review of Red Riding by Roger Ebert and he was saying how good it was and how US TV could never do anything so dark and serious-minded. Naturally, our own critics tend to have a high opinion of US drama and claim that UK stuff lacks the polished writing of the transatlantic stuff.

I suspect the fact that they ship their best stuff over here and we ship our best stuff over there gives both countries a skewed idea of what the other's TV and TV culture is like.

What I do wonder is how much good Australian, Irish and New Zealand television must get ignored...

I like that series  I can't see it translating too well though, but then again, it's already dumb enough as it is, so mabey it'll work!
