I vaguely remember about a year or so ago he said he was getting too much crap off people and had no interest in paying for the bandwidth etc. There were other politics involved that I really didn't pay attention too but it appeared he just got tired of the flack/expense/hassle of doing it.

    EDIT: from the forum..

Due to financial problems, problems with servers and kind-of legal problems, I am shutting down several of the most popular sections of the website, while keeping the less popular ones open for a while.

No, nobody sued me. That's what annoys me the most - its not the companies that care - why would they, they make no money from these decade old games, and they make no money from second hand games, so why should they care?

No, its these ridiculous retards who are just regular website visitors that send me threats saying that they will sue me, report me (to who? the game police?) and that I'm somehow making artists in the gaming industry starve. Righto... except artists don't make money from out-of-production games and they sure as hell don't make money from second hand sales of games (and you can bet your ass that the person who sold you that game made a copy for himself).

Anyway, this site is a financial black hole, I get no pleasure from it, so I see no reason to keep it running.

If you have a donation subscription running, cancel it. No, I'm not going to cancel it for you. Any further donations will go towards covering past losses and keeping up what's left of the site.

    Thanks, and bye.

On the other hand, there were hundreds of MIA and STP files on that site, so...the site going down might be considered a loss unless the files/tapes turn up elsewhere.

Zophars was OK back in about 1999 (after that it was a horrible spam and pop-up riddled joke of an emu site).

I'm surprised it's even still there, even if it is broken.

Wow, how can it be that possible? ( I mean that there were so many MIA and were not ulploaded to WoS?). I hope they can be recovered!

Well that old site brings back some memories. Used to use it a ton when i was emulator mad. Was pretty good.

Quite funny the reason he gave. Amusing he got so much crap from the goodie-two-shoes brigade and it wasnt like Atari or Nintendo sent him a cease and decease letter.

With so many other similar sites on the net though i cant believe these websites get many donations

Actually, there were none, as they just took our files...
