I've seen quite a few "look at this ebay description!" links in the last few years. They always seem to be done in this "style" and frequently end up with a lot of bids, probably thanks to them having gone "viral" and been posted to dozens of messageboards.

It's like when Charlie Brooker popularised the over-the-top simile-heavy "angry" style of criticism about ten years ago and then we were deluged by every two-bit internet critic doing the same thing.

I get the feeling people are deliberately and cynically creating these whimsical/ironic/bitter ebay item descriptions these days so that they go viral and push up hits, and therefore bids and profit.

Nah, I don't sell stuff on ebay. Although I've got a lot of stuff I need rid of so maybe I should and pull the "here's a wee story" schtick along with it. ;)

    Still funny though. :)

But you are right. Internet users end up working for the seller, for free!

Gotta go now. I have to tell everyone about this.

Made me chuckle, although they probably posted that on their ebay ad to get more bids even though it probably made up...

Hi , is the watch battery operated or one of those self winding ones charged up by arm movement, if its the latter I would give it to Steve , he sounds a right w**ker so at least you would know the watch would always remain fully charged

    even the questions are quality

PS - As Steve is actually my boss and I punched him hard in the face and subsequently do not have a job, the revenue from the sale of these items will go toward feeding myself and my poor cat Judy, who sadly lost her tail and one of her legs in a lathe accident.

Cat and Lathe?? WFT? poor cat. :-o

Yeah, I was wondering about that comment myself....

    It does seem a bit like a wind-up....still, a good read! :D

reminds me of the chav mobile one a while back.. both made me laugh :)
  • Re: whether it's real or not.

Probably not, or certainly exaggerated. If it's well written and it makes me laugh then it's good enough for me :D I'm fairly convinced that when you go and see a stand-up comedian that less than 100% of the 'anecdotes' used actually happened.

I can't access eBay at work, and I'll prolly forget to check when I get home: what does the description say, I'm intrigued.... :-?

its a watch his GF gave him, and then left him for his mate, now he's selling all the stuff she gave him because the guy she slept with was also his boss who he thumped so he is now out a job.

Always funny when they still have a shipping charge on something like that.

500 quid and 3.50 shipping....I should email him.

"Hi I saw your auction..the shipping seems a little high can you explain, I'm interested but 3.50 for 1 tape seems way over the top"
