edited August 2011 in Chit chat
we know what computers you lot used back in the day / now, and what music you like/d.

so heres the clothing thread :)

what clothes did you wear / still wear that may be recognisable as retro? anything interesting?

at school i used to wear

sta press trousers (burgundy / bright blue)
Y cardigan
burgundy fred perry t shirt
a pair of black dockers.

back in my raving days i used to wear a pinkish global hypercolour sweatshirt (changes colour when you get hot / sweat)

back in the 70s when i was little i remember wearing tank tops :)

I've had umpteen bomber (MA1) jackets over the years, and still have two: a green one and a maroon one. Also got 2 black harrington jackets, and a pair of reissued reebok hitops (orginally from 1989).

Although I'm not an actual skinhead, I do usually have very short hair and coupled with the bomber jackets, this has resulted in some apprehensive looks from old grannies at times... I'm not a thug, honest ossifer!

Mel, I have a fashion policewoman on my case..... my wife bless her, has a bee in her bonnet about skinhead style, and so I don't get to wear a harrington jacket or a flight jacket - even when I had long hair. She thinks that clothes maketh the racist. :(

I wear a cut off demim jacket, over a leather jacket, with a few studs and patches on. I I have given up wearing badges on it as they fall off.

and I wear army surplus, which used to be big back in the day, the ubiquitous german para boots.

But, this is what I want for my 40th birthday

as for actual retro, not just retro style, I do wear an original 1960's leather jacket, which is on it's last legs, but would be rubbish in a crash.

I've got a pair of those too, had them for years and although they look beat up (and they are) they've got many more years in them. They're waterproof all the way up, too, which is handy if you have an unfortunate habit of falling into streams like wot I have. I love to go a-wandering (tra la la etc) and they're the comfiest thing I've found so far for long walks. On the downside, they're heavy.

Before those, I had a pair of british army boots, on which the sole literally disintegrated after only a few months.

heh yeah ye olde army surplus :)
gone through tons of that stuff through the years some of it cheap, later on it started getting pricier.

    german para boots
    german parkas
    german shirts
think the trousers with the pockets on the sides were german too?
do they still do army surplus? every shop in sheffield i knew vanished in the mid 00s or changed into camping type shops :(

i still wear my old NBC jacket from the late 80s, dunno why a bit of charcoal would protect you from nuclear, biological, chemical mind lol.........not much lining left in mine now.
still wear the odd punk badges / tshirts from the 80s, my jacket always has an anti nazi badge on

I walked 16 miles in mine and got bad blisters, so I bought some walking boots :D

I mostly wear mine on my motorbike, they keep my feet dry and warm.

I still have a few old school Adidas jackets like this one:

Got that one, another in bright orange, and a dark blue one with the big logo on the back. I have one of their old school hoodies in blue too. Oh, and a pair of old white Adidas Campus, with luminous green trim.

Bit of an Adidas fan, me.

I have a pair of 70's flared jeans brought in a retro clothing store in the US. I also brought a cheap disco suit in a US thrift store, but have only worn it once.

My favourite kinds of trainers are those from the mid to late 1980's 1984-87, and when I buy trainers I tend to go with Adidas Originals which are remakes old old designs, but these days in much more tasteful colours rather then that of Jimmy Savills's technicolor shell suits.

My favourite era and genre of clothing is Camden Town circa the year 2000. At that point camden had some very innovative but tastefull modernesque clothes and trainers, sadly now their clothes seem try too hard to hark back to times of camden old and fail badly i.e. Stuart tarten and goth combo's with the odd safety pin, its like they are trying to fake a heritage, rather than continue to innovate. I have two pairs of platform trainers from this time (though these are anything but tasteful by main stream standards), one which are covered in big black spikes and the other are very cartoon like. I also brought various electronic t-shirts from a shop called Cyberdog most of which are now dysfunctional.

Was out clubbing last night and ended up having a chat about retro style (mid/late 90s) and these t shirts came up

Can anyone explain why we used to pay for clothes to show where the sweat patches were?????

I used to wear "originals". Basically denim jeans, that you put on and never washed, never took off except to get in the bath or go sleep (maybe). Don't tend to do that now.

it's weird... I mean... I looked at the post.. then the poster who left it.. and it wasn't Mile  .. strange things are afoot at WOS

she reminds me a bit like Jerri , probably the haircut (the woman behind the c64 DTV)

Mile , is that some sorta german-ish ww2 uniform thing.. Lemmy out of motorhead is a fan of them .. for their "design" .. found it bizarre only matched by him driving around in a WW2 german tank.

    you seem shocked ?

yer I found it a bit amusing to be honest.. him and the darkness clash.

motorhead as music goes isn't really my thing BUT with the exception of the obvious ace of spades. I can find maybe at least 1 tune I like in a genre even if I think it's generally an awful type of music.

Like an English or History teacher from the 80's. I bet you have leather pads on the elbows of your sweater too.

I have a blue one from the 70's/early 80's that doesn't even have the 3 stripes on it, stupidly I ruined it with 2 very prominant hot rock burns in the chest :(

With it being very early tracky top material the ganga just burned through it as soon as it touched it. I've only ever seen one other person with the same top, and that was some twatty student with long hair and flared browns cords on. I felt like jumping him and stealing his tracky top from him

Afterall he just wasn't doing it justice, had about as much style as a McCain oven chip :D

I do have a pair of original Stan Smith sneakers as well, but they're kinda worn out, and my wife hates them cos' I won't let her throw them away. Back home I think I still have a pair of turqoise Gazelles as well, with huge laces in them :D

Oh and about a year or so ago I bought myself a pair of old style Adidas Shell toes (remember them), I've only worn them twice and they're still pretty much in mint condition, they live in their original box when they're not being worn.

Now all I need is a pair of Adidas Tango, apparently they brought them out again a few years ago, but I've not seen a pair since about 1986?

I remember in the late 80's i used to wear stonewashed jeans, i thought they looked cool. I also wore a 'bumfreezer' jacket which was basically a short leather jacket.
Later on in the 90's i would wear 'bubble' jackets which were the rage amongst the crowd i used to hang out with.

yeah, from what i can work out its an afrikakorp tunic, hence to open collar rather than the buttoned up variety. or perhapse a summer variety of the european tunic. or some distant film prop, it could even be GDR surplus.

I was a tracksuited breakdancer for a while in the 80's...
I then headed from "normal" jeans and a t-shirt towards baggy skater/jungle raver clothes in the 90's. I skateboarded a lot and went to Jungle Raves.....
I still wear big baggy jeans - I had to get rid of the tops though years ago. I couldn't wear them in work - they all had some kinda link to weed - usually a massive leaf or my old favourite Dready(Google images to see him) :)
