Could the 8256 back the disks up so a copy can be fed to the WOS archive...? =-)
Depends what PCW model it is. An 8000-series PCW can copy an unprotected +3 disc (using DISCKIT or the LocoScript 2 disc copier to copy from A: to A: ). A 9512 can read 173k discs, but can't write them; so the best you could do then is image the discs with the CP/M version of DU54.
If the disc is in CPC format (DATA or SYSTEM) rather than PCW/+3 173k, DISCKIT won't be able to copy it, but DU54 should.
I have decided to end all auctions as I have had the disks tested and all have varying degrees of errors on them. As such I can't sell them in their current condition. The disks are in safe hands and any useful data on them will be shared in due time. Thanks.

Thats nice to hear :)
I hope we can see something soon, this is one of the most important discoveries of the last years for the Spectrum community

It's a pity I didn't have my 6128 Plus goign (I need a monitor or a power supply/scart lead) otherwise I could have helped get those discs working..
But, as long as there are attempts to get the data off (if the GTW64 team can get stuff off faulty C64 discs, then our boys can do it with CPC/Spec discs!) and Psychofox will become a hero for bringing them to our attention. (Hero status will also go to whoever recovers workable data)

What you could do, is that if anything can be salvaged off of there you could re-list it with further information on it having semi-useable data. There might be some collectors who want it just because of its history (or lack thereof?)
I'm glad you're willing to share anything that can be retrieved from there, thanks! :-)
Quick note. As people have probably guessed, the Bushido disk is almost certainly that of the unreleased Bushiho Warrior.
I emailed Ross Harris, who is credited on Bushido Warrior, and he replied: "It's certainly possible- 5/88 is about the right time for development. Argh, it's so long ago I can't even remember if I there was an Amstrad version. More than likely, we usually did one if we did a Speccy one. I'll send a message to the Speccy programmer of Bushido, see if he remembers."
I'm guessing that if a working Mega Twins demo was recovered then it couldn't be distributed from WoS due to Capcom denying ?
I was thinking the same about the unreleased Torjan which was an arcade conversion under Capcom ?
I?m on my hols in Majorca at the moment, so haven?t touched a computer for a week or so... Anyway, the discs are all in a very bad way.
To date, the Spectrum Mega Twins disc has been successfully dumped, plus two Amstrad discs with Mega Twins on it... There are other proto discs that have been recovered, but progress is very very slow. Mega Twins is in a fairly playable form, although not complete. There are some graphics glitches with the scrolling and some placeholder graphics are in place rather than finished artwork... Also it appears some collision detection is not in place.. I?d say the game is about 95% complete give or take.
Some discs have been dumped - cleaned and redumped about 20+ times in order to get an error free image.
I?d best consult with Martijn about what can - can?t be released and take it from there.
There is still a ton more dumping work to do for the rest of the discs.... so watch this space.
I haven't had time to dump any more of the disks since my last post on the subject.
I have spoken to Martijn about releasing Mega Twins, and he doesn't want to host it on WoS at the moment due to Capcom denying distribution, which I can understand.
So unless we can get an amended permission from Capcom, which allows either demos or unfinished games to be released, It's not gonna make it's way on here.
An alternative would be for me to put it on the vault, but then I don't know if Martijn would want to cut ties formally with the vault to keep WoS squeeky clean..
In my opinion, better don't try to make contact with them. As Ivan says they'll just say NO. They won't earn a single yen by it but they'll do it just to be sure. Do we really need it? What's not forbidden is allowed :)
Maybe it's better not to discuss these things in public ;)
I guess the next best thing, if there's anything playable, would be to release a Video of it in action ?
It's indeed a tricky scenario because WoS want's to stay on the right side.
Really we should ask Capcom and take their decision, I know it might suck, but it's the right thing to do.

Some people were strangely quiet when the disk auctions were pulled off Ebay :)
Well, Mega Twins files probably won't goto Wos due to Capcom copyrights, but somebody really willing to play the game will find it ;)
I'm waiting for more news.
Some great recovery work is going on behind the curtains !
yeah!!! :)
yep there are a few , inc. the one with the gunsmoke one with by the Spanish folk ?
it comes down to IP ... even it say it was a loading screen or a demo.

We will! ;) and thanks for the effort :)
And again thanks for making the preservation possible.
I'm also making enquiries about things related to this with other people.. won't say no more until I hear anything definate...

I think if we try to contact them they will just say "no", as they dont care and they dont want to be bothered or have any problems...
Maybe it's better not to discuss these things in public ;)

Ive also would appreciate a pm
