The Super Shinobi (jap version of Revenge of Shinobi). Great game, great graphics, great music I still have my Megadrive cart stashed in a drawer. IIRC I have the one with the proper Batman and Spiderman in it (Sega had to eventually replace them for obvious legal reasons) and I think it's supposed to be worth a bit of cash.
Did anyone ever finish it without using the infinite shuriken cheat?

only played the Megadrive one at my cousins....never got it myself, though I have had a blast on the emulator or one of those compilation things you can get for the xbox...if it's the one I thought it was then I was no where near completing it and wasn't overly impressed
I've got a soft spot for the first one on the Master System.
This is the one I've played the most. The jumping, ducking, quick throwing and distance-based attacks were very well implemented. It just felt fluid. There were some arcade conversions that were done very well on the Master System. Shinobi and R-Type were probably the best.
Revenge of Shinobi on the Megadrive almost persuaded me to buy that console but I just ended up playing it a lot round my mates :p Excellent version too.
I've always atually prefered the Speccy version to be honest. It was one of the first games I brought on +3 disc, so I played it quite alot.
I play the original on MAME quite alot, but I'm not really a fan. I can normally get to level 2, but give up after that. Arcade wise, I prefer Rolling Thunder (and it's much better sequel) to Shinobi.
I played the Master System conversion last night and quite enjoyed it, until I got to the first boss. I just couldn't get a hit on him, plus this version didn't seem to have any magic to help either. But from what I played, it was an impressive conversion.
The Game Gear game was very good too. You can select your starting level, so even if you're crap (like me) you get to see more than just the first level. The road level where you are jumping from truck to truck is a very good level and worth checking out for that!
Shinobi in the arcades was one of those "holy crap" moments for me....
Even more amazing was Revenge on the Megadrive. My mate got it and a Megadrive the Christmas it came out. We were just sitting on the settings for ninja stars going "this game is gonna be impossible" when the funny noise that signifies the infinite stars happened. It's the only cheat I really did discover myself :) (along with everyone else of course......it was well placed to be found)
In order for me: Revenge(Megadrive), Shinobi(Arcade), Shinobi3(Megadrive), Shinobi(Master system), Alex Kidd in Shinobi World.........
I never really liked Shadow Dancer much......

The arcade game lets you use continues. Until the last set of levels. Then it just arbitrarily stops you from continuing which is a shame as those last few levels are rock. Then you've got the final boss who seems to have no pattern and is cheap beyond Seth's worst nightmares.

Toki did the same thing
Anyway my fave Shinobi is the original coin-op, closely followed by the original coin-op of Shadow Dancer.
Arcade for me too....I used to pump hundreds of 10ps into that thing! Only ever made it to just past the first boss as well...but still had loads of fun with it...
Comments
that and the megadrive revenge of .. are decent.
c64 version is decent , so is pc engine one.
speccy version hhmm they had it where it scrolled up for upper level? they could have scaled down the background to fit it on screen.

Hope they don't mess it up wth silly touchscreen controls/mini games.

Does Shadow Dancer count? And if it does, I preferred the Mega Drive version over the arcade one.

Alex Kidd in Shinobi World's not really a Shinobi game. Great game though!
much like the invisible cliff in double dragon
