TURBOSOUND- has anoyne built in?
Hi everyone,
has someone built in TURBOSOUND or TURBOSOUND FM hardware in his beloved 128K machine (heatsink, +2, +2A, +3)??
I am thinking of buying one for me and would like to know someone else's experience with it.
Thanks

So, in the meantime, I had been discovering things a bit. We, the users of standart English 128K machines have problems with too slow machines. If you want to play compiled double AY music, there could be no problem (at least that is what Velesoft guess, we did not try it). BUT. Users that will fit TURBOSOUND (TS) into their machines will definitelly compose some music for it. And. There are I think two trackers that can do that. One of them which we have tried on a real +2 was Pro Tracker 3.72. If you load a 6 channel module and even switch off the upper three indicators, it is still slow. The solution is to limit the scrolling of the pattern during playing by 2-3 lines. We are working on it, but hopefully athor of PT will help.
As for switching ABC to ACB stereo, Velesoft has look on the PCB of TS, and it could be done.
We shall see....

I bought Spectrum Evolution with the TSFM. It works really nice.
Connecting to any Spectrum isn't hard because one just has to remove original AY and put in the same place a "plug" from TSFM. And that's exactly what I did.
Trackers mostly need 256Kb of RAM minimum, if I noticed correctly.
But it's possible to use programs on PC: TSFM-Tracker and Vortex.

Thanks for your reply. Yesterday we were working with Velesoft on PT372 modification. We disabled 3 lines out of 9 during playing. And the speed seems to be normal even on our machines. During editation there will be full of 9 lines displayed. Also Velesoft discovered that the displaying routine is in page 7 which is the slow one, so removing it to another page would also be the solution. But swaping pages could be a harder nut to crack. But I guess we will succeed in limitting displaying to 6 lines and this will save the required time for PT372 to play at proper speed on our european machines.
You built in TSFM. Is there any tracker directly on ZXS? If not, do you know of any plans to write it? Can you at least play the TSFM songs on ZX EVO? I was listening to TSFM, but the synthesis does not sound good to my ears. I really do not know if to buy TS or TSFM. TSFM is very chemical. SID is simpler but sounds much better. Do you know if you can let one channel sound like AY, and others like FM synthesis? Or can you even swap during playing in one channel between AY sound and FM sound?
Also as I understood from the TSFM tracker on the PC, you have to create your instruments parameter by parameter, am I right? I really do not now much about FM synthesis. The definitions on the internet are very precise and too comprehensive.

No trackers and actual plans for a native tracker with full TSFM support exists, and it is very probably that it will never be done.
In the tracker on PC you can either use large library of ready-made instruments or create your own.
Thanks Shiru. So with TSFM I can play six AY channels+ six FM channels in one time? The PC tracker can manage that? I saw only 6 channels in it?
Can you send the link to the instrument library? Are they universal (can be used any existing instrument for PC), or have to be made exclusively for TSFM?
How about the difference in sound of AY chips and YM chips. In the emulator I can only hear, the YM sounds a bit more silent. But any differences in dynamics of the chips? I do not have such a good loudspeakers to tell. But to my ears it seemd not only change in volume, but also a bit change in dynamics.
When I saw the process of creating the instruments in the PC tracker, there are really hundreds of combinations and for the prgrammer on ZXS, it would be very demanding task. But there are at least players on the speccy, am I right?

Instruments are provided with the tracker. They are not universal, you can use instruments that were made for OPN or OPM family of Yamaha's chips in few formats.
The main difference between AY-3-8910 and YM2149 is envelope resolution, it is twice higher on YM. They also has different output characteristics, so if you replace one with other in the exact same enviroment, you'll notice difference in the dynamics. Not that big, though.
There are players for FM music for ZX, and you can use existing players for AY if you want to combine FM with AY.
