Gubbed +2

edited September 2011 in Hardware
Hi,

I bought a Spectrum +2 off ebay but when powered up i get a screen of green and black squares. Is it for the bin or can this be a simple repair?

I've not had it back out the box yet but I'm sure it black. It's in a Police Pack box and has non english writing on some of the input/outputs.

    Hello there,

    Welcome to WoS!

Sad to see such a problem, however the following procedures will help you ascertain the fault.

    1. Check the CPU and ROM sockets on the motherboard.
    2. Replace the ROM(s) with known working ones
    3. Replace the CPU with a known working unit
    4. Replace the MEMORY on the motherboard

If you managed to get to here, then its most likely the ASIC thats developed a fault. unfortunately you can only get these from other +2AB's and +3's.

good luck on your quest =)
