It's got to be some sort of a wind up. And they haven't even re-wound the bloody tape!

"Not many Spectrum games came in this sort of box and the box..."

Is he sure about that? That must make my Batman and Chase HQ games absolutely bloody priceless.

Has anyone contacted him yet asking him which joker told him this game was worth ?350???

:)

It's probably Michael Jackson himself that started that auction. He asked one of his corporate underlings to scour the net for anything that bore his name and, having no concept of the value of money (he has so bloody much of it), thought that was a reasonable price. :)

Of course I can't stand Michael Jackson; I get physically sick just by looking at him. So I wouldn't even pay a ha'penny for it.

Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

Perhaps the authentic crush damage on the box justifies the price ?

Well I think nearly all of us can retire early if these outlandish auctions are anything to go by. In the meantime, I would advise you to hire a 24 - 7 security firm to guard your collection, complete with loops of razor wire outside your house. ;)

Tsk, these traders just amaze me. Why can't they just do even the smallest of market research into what they are trying to sell. "Ooh, let's see... there isn't another copy of this for sale at the moment for the Spectrum, so it must be ultra rare and hence worth ?250!". Well, there isn't another copy of my slightly torn March 1991 issue of Sinclair User for sale at the moment either...

Are you sure you wanted to say that in public? :p

I've got one copy of it somewhere, but I think it's got some high scores written in the box. I wonder if that makes it even rarer than the on on eBay?

I got a reply from the seller as well...

"I'm selling it as a piece of Michael Jackson memorabelia, not just a Spectrum game. But thanks for the vote of confidence. Really mature of you to take the time to write to me and say it'll never sell."

That must have cost him a couple of quid to list. What a spacker.
• edited November 2004
I sent him a question with a link to this thread. Maybe that'll help him see sense!
• edited November 2004
Maybe I'll offer the seller 75p and a packet of Rolos -- on second thoughts I'll omit the Rolos, this tape isn't worth that much. :p

Are there really any Michael Jackson fans left?? I suspect this seller may be the only one in the UK... :D

They are quite R@RE. You could probably fetch ?250 for one on ebay. ;)

I just love the way that...

- The tape is slightly scratched
- The box has a dent
- The poster is missing

...but it's still in MINT CONDITION

What a twat.

I've just rechecked this auction, and the Starting Bid has mysteriously dropped from ?250 to ?199, and the Buy [This Sh]it Now price from ?350 to ?220! :)

So it looks as though the seller has begun to see sense; I think that when the prices have dropped to "75p" and "75p and a packet of Rolos" respectively, we'll know he's finally seen sense. :p :D

Maybe he means that it's been stored all these years in the samw drawer as his Nuttall's Mintoes collection. :D

Heh - all the people here with the same copy of the game should stick it up on eBay for like 2 quid or something.

.....or, copy their item title, and include a link to this thread / TZX file.

Why list it under PC & Video Gaming > Vintage Gaming > Sinclair > Games then? Surely Music > Music Memorabilia > Artists/ Groups > Perverted Freaks would get a better response? Maybe it's just me.

Anybody want to buy my rare copy of 'Stonkers'? It's in mint condition, although the inlay is missing and the tape says John Menzies C15.

Yours for ?499.99.

might be a ploy

seller does it to get hits on item, and other items being sold, then day auction ends, adjusts price to ?0.99 to get a refund on listing fees, or cancels auction and hopes some newb will make an offer of ?20 or so, as they really believe it is a hard to come by game.

Great! I have Chase HQ on 3" disk, surely worth more then! Anyone got a spare ?400?
