New version of ZXDS?

Hi Patrik,

Just wondering if you are planning to release a new version of ZXDS?

If so, any chance you would be willing to share a possible date and what features you may add?

    Apart from support for +3 disk, I can't think of any good reason why ZXDS needs an update. Not that I'm complaining if Patrik is updating it... ;)

    Spectranet emulation? ZXirc on the DS? Spectrum multiplayer games using two DSs in the same room or anywhere on the planet? :)

    To a certain extent I agree. The current version is excellent especially as I now understand far more about how it works. The sort of things I would like to see are some smoothing out of the interface and ability to set some default options as I have mentioned before.

    One for me would be not to change the background colour of the lower screen to the border colour. For a while this had be fazed as I thought it was a bug in ZXDS. :smile:

    I have an older version, so I don't know if this has changed but I would LOVE to get more temporary save slots. (i.e. the Load Slot/Save Slot function) Perhaps being able to scroll down pages of slots (doesn't matter if it's scrollable by one row or pages of 3x3 slots)

    OK, so this ^^^ is what I would prefer to see implemented. My next suggestion is more of an annoyance I keep commiting :mad:

    This is a bit embarrassing but seeing as I've done it more than a few times ... is there a chance that the SAVE SLOT and LOAD SLOT page(s) could be spruced up a bit, so as to indicate better which one you're using.
    I know that it says either LOAD or SAVE in the lower left corner depending on which you've clicked on the top ... but I've more than once clicked the wrong button, i.e. LOAD instead of SAVE and clicked the desired slot and lost what I was working on. I know, haste makes waste and such and whatnot and I should keep a better eye on what I am doing but sometimes it seems like my screen isn't properly adjusted so I "see" that I am clicking one button but the "click" is interpreted a few pixels off so the wrong icon gets clicked. And yes, I know there is an UNDO button but sometimes I LOAD slots that don't seem to have changed (in PGD I can work for a long while on one screen but then not notice until afterwards that I've been working on a screen in an older version of whatever PGD project I'm working on).

    Examples of solutions(to a relatively non-existent and non-problematical issue (aside from ZnorXman's experience ;-P )):

    1) Load Slot page would have a different background colour than the Save Slot page.

    2) Have a different coloured margin around each slot icon, 1-pixel green line around SAVE slots, red for load.

    C) Have a "confirm?" box pop up "Do you want to SAVE to slot x?"

    D) Ignore ZnorXman (safest option)

    %) Separate the LOAD and SAVE buttons away from each other, i.e. move TAPE between the two (dumest sugestuin of em al)

    Ok, sorry ... rant over. I honestly should keep a closer eye on things and always confirm what I'm doing BEFORE actually clicking stuff but you get used to a routine/method of doing things (I use PGD A LOT on the ZXDS) and once in a while I do get the mishap of LOADing a slot instead of SAVEing :-(

    i usually map them to the shoulder buttons.

    so left for save, right for load. or is it the other way round? i always forget and make a mess of it. hence my insistence for a rollback button. :p

    I agree with all the above comments for +3 emulation, multiplayer, confirmation for the load/saves (and a way to tell load & save apart).

    As nearly every other key is mappable, could these Spectrum+ keys be?

    It's L for Load, R for Save (at least that's what the builtin example KEYS 1-4 configs do). This was the only way so I can remember it. :)
