Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation in Chile. What you think?
Hello specmates,
Maybe some of you - european people -, read in the news about the APEC reunion of the 21 presidents of the more important economies of America and Asia. Of course, this Putin or Bush guys were in Chile, discussing about terrorist acts, globalization, trade agreements and... only a little bit of people's quality of life, education, culture...
What do you think about that?
Let me tell you that I recall the Clive Sinclair utopic (not in an communist point of view, but futuristic) way of see things - electric vehicles, educational microcomputers, frienly-enviromental bikes -, and I just think that what can be this world in a Sinclair way of DO things.
You british guys, MUST create, finance and manage the pop dream that Mr Sinclair show us.
Please, don't do comparison between Clive and GWBush. It's just a waste of time.
Again, excuse my lack of english.
Cheers

90 percent sounds too high, but it probably illustrates the point rather well...
The simple fact is that no matter how innovative Britain was/is, and clever the inventive minds are, that Britain is in no position financially to do much :(
Especially whilst Richard Branson, Tony Blair etc etc have been running around wetting themselves in order to shake Bill Gates hand these past 8 years or so...
Britain needs to get some balls back.
Sorry this is only regarding British innovation you mention... as far as peoples quality of life, indeed right to certain things/protections... I`ll be for that *_+
1. The Airforce 1 landed in a military reservation, not in the public, commercial lines airport like others president's planes. After that, the american agents took for about 20 minutes the total control of that reservation, forcing diplomatic, airforce, customs and police personel to wait in a room (americans lock the door). That was some sort of invasion.
2. Bush (an his bodyguards) don't respect a diplomatic rule at the entrance of an event, in the Mapocho Station of Santiago. The american gorillas want to enter with Bush & wife, but chilean police force stops that. So, a little fight take place. But Bush took one american agent by the shoulder and get him inside the building, so he was the only one president that broke the rule.
3. Chile prepare a special dinner for american delegation at the Palace of La Moneda (goverment house), with about 300 guest. For security issues, Bush demand that all guest (diplomatics, ministers, senators, representants, militars, bussinessmen) must walk through a security portal and then checked by american agents. So, Chilean president Ricardo Lagos don't accept that, suspend the event and, in a few hours, he organize a small, quick dinner for 20 peoples. What a shame!
Besides that, Geroge Bush must by now be the no.1 target for any terrorist. That might make him a bit paranoid about who guards him.
