Does the usual composite mod damage Speccies?

Is it not just a DC offset on the signal? The input on the TV surely has DC blocking anyway.

Very possible. If the computer chip inside the TV doesn't recognise the signal timings it may well just refuse to do anything. Every one is different.

The obvious test is to press some keys, if you get clicks from the beeper then it's okay.

Keyboard clicks are okay, but I did not find any tv around that can show any picture. It seems, that in the age of lcds, the regular composite mod is not a real option anymore. Too bad, that Im not good enough in electronics to fix the video signal. I mean soldering a wire is one thing, but building a circuit without any deeper knowledge in electronics is another.
Anyone know a hardware solution - like a composite to vga adapter or something similar - that can handle the overdriven composite videsignal coming out from the speccy? I mean something you can buy in stores.
