Which is the best Deus Ex game?

Damn, mean to ask as a poll:

Which Deus Ex game do you prefer:

(in order of release)

1. Deus Ex,
2. Deus Ex: Invisible War,
3. Deus Ex: Human Revolution (a prequel to Deus Ex, even though it's the last to be released),

Personally I much prefer DE 1, as to my mind it does almost everything better than the other two. It's got a better story, it's a longer game, better dialogue, more interesting characters, it has the best skill system, the most replayability, the best levels (playing areas), and is the most fun. I must have completed it a dozen times, and still discover new things and ways to play it.

And I'm still one day going to do a non-lethal run - I keep meaning to, but give in to the temptation to kill the enemies instead.

Invisble War is, I think, very unfairly treated. Most people hate the game as it is a terrible sequel to Deus Ex (and it is a terrible sequel), since it deliberately does away with so much of what made DE1 so great - there's no skill system RPG aspects, the storyline isn't nearly so interesting, the characters are often bland, the locations don't feel like the places they should (it does not feel like you are in Seattle, or Cairo, or wherever, it always feels like you're inside a bio-dome on another planet), you can't search bodies for items, etc, plus it has some really bad gameplay mechanics, such as universal ammo (who thought that having one type of ammunition, which works with all guns of all types would be good in a game???), making hacking into an aug (it should be a skill!), and

On the other hand, you can now hack and control bots and turrets in first person view, which is a brilliant way to attack people! Plus IW does do some other things right, like giving you augs much earlier in the game, and allowing you to use any aug for almost any function (unlike in DE, where each aug is limited to it's own two functions), and in IW (unlike in DE) you are no longer stuck with any augs you install, you can overwrite them with others, as long as you have another aug to overwrite the old one with.

All in all, I think that IW is a great game. Not nearly as good as DE, and a terrible sequel to DE, but if you view it as a first person shooter, and not as a FPS/RPG follow up to Deus Ex, then it's really enjoyable.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution, release about six weeks ago, is a great game, but not nearly as good as it should have been. Like IW, it was dumbed down, but this time around they at least kept some of the DE features that IW lacked, and overall HR is a great game, one of my favourites of the past few years. On the minus side, it doesn't bring back the DE skill point system that IW did away with, it has the least fun augs of the three games, although this is arguably necessary, since the game is only set in the next decade from now, when technology won't have quantum leaped to the Deus Ex level of augs - then again, I doubt that some things in HR would be possible in the next decade if possible at all (Icarus landing system? Rechargable health? The city built on two levels despite so few apparent support structures?). The game is badly skewed towards stealth, but then you're forced into run and gun style gameplay for the bosses, you can't pick up most of the items in the game world (which really hurts the immersion), the game is short with few memorable characters, and the game is filled with empty cardboard boxes, for some reason. If they needed to add breakable boxes for items for you to interact with, then why not put things in the boxes... And the endings (multiple, like all three DE games, you choose a different ending to the game) are very unsatisfying as you just get Adam (your in-game character) philosophising instead of being shown the results of your choice.

Anyway, despite all that, it's still a great game, with lots of playablity, things to discover, some fun augs, and an interesting storyline. A great game, but (to me and many others) it's not nearly as good as the original.

For me, Deus Ex is still the best game of the series.

And in Deus Ex 1 news, 2027 has been released:

    Havent played any of them.

The Speccy game with the same name was good. It came with an audio cassette which you played at certain intervals during the game (like an audio book). A great idea for its time. It was really trippy :)

I have only played the first one. I was quite enjoying it but left it for a bit and when I got back to it I could not remember the controls and how to do things etc and couldn't face starting all over again from the beginning.
