I'm about hmm 70% sure you can use it with the music maker overlay keyboard. haven't used it in years.. I've got a c64 midi interface that I've not even had the time to try out yet.
The full sized keyboard plugs into the expander. You can use the overlay, but this only fits breadbin C64's. You can use the keys too.
As it stands, no MIDI keyboard will work with the module, but you never know what people are working on.......:p
I really like the SFX Expander and have several. The price of these has risen over the last couple of years, sometimes to really silly amounts.

Good luck with the auction!
Yeah I had one 'back in the day' and loved it, VERY good quality sound for the time..had the full size keyboard with it too....extremely thin on the ground here in the US and they do go for silly money when the appear.
To say its not MIDI compatible isn't strictly correct, but I haven't found a C64 MIDI interface that works with it yet as there is a cart expander slot built in. Apparently a couple of address lines are crossed over so if the interface uses these, it won't work.
It was developed/designed in the UK and from what I can tell, only released in Europe, so they probably would be a bit rare in the US.
The software that drives it is a bit clunky by today's standards.
But like I said, I really like them and am addressing the MIDI issue as I type this. Mrs Spex likes this idea as it will mean getting rid of the C64's that have found a home in our living room.
Beanz, assuming you could use this in a MIDI setup, what would you like it to do?
not tried my midi cart with the sound expander I have, I rarely used it. I remember the demo on it that sounded like Iron horse arcade music (banjo etc)
There are loads of synths based on or around the SID. If your soldering is up to it, try a midibox project, which is actually how I ended up here and with so many blooming SFX sound expanders and keyboards! I saw a tiny USB project with a SID on it the other day, but can't find a link right now. I built the MB6582 4 years ago and although its very nice, rarely play it and in fact actually prefer my single midibox SID synth for coolness/cheapness but its in pieces at the moment. There is an AY synth too.
I have the Prophet64 cart, but again don't really use that for music, usually just testing SIDs.
Think the mssiah has sample playing capabilities.

Whats the retrobrite stuff you mentioned though, that sounds useful, apart from that nasty sunlight stuff
Might bid and just have you send the module if I win.....the keyboard puts shipping at 50 quid :/
Anyone know if you NEED that specific keyboard or will any midi keyboard work with that module?

Thanks I have to reclaim my old SGI Indy and get it cleaned up
Well, here's hoping the 464 will be cheap..

Shame about not being midi compatible.

I'd probably buy quadra-sid instead
