Was Last Ninja III ever planned for the Spectrum?

I highly doubt it.. system 3 were a 64-centric software house it would be fair to say.

at that time it was coming to end of days for c64 also, the returns vs dev costs.

I say "DEV" costs , but the owner was famous for not paying the talent (2 names come to mind straight away).. I friend was working there at one point, was really cool to see robin Levy's artwork on the day. but well going to a boring office de-mystified the gaming dev side of thing.

    According to this advert, no:

    ftp://ftp.worldofspectrum.org/pub/sinclair/games-adverts/l/LastNinja3.jpg

so it shouln't even be listed as MIA.
There's no mention of a Spectrum release on that advert either stating C64 computers, C64GS Console and the Amiga/Atari ST.

So, yeah, I don't think it is MIA.

There are more references listed than that one advert. ;-)
Also note that the game is not listed MIA, but Never Released.

Hmm... I guess you refer to the (very vague) note published in Your Sinclair. Again, there is no proof that the game was ever conceived for the Spectrum other than that - and it's a very thin lead. The advert doesn't even say "Coming soon for Spectrum" or something similar, as it previously happened in other cases instead.

Surely for a program to be listed as MIA or Never Released it must at least have existed in some partial form at some time - so hopefully it can eventually be found and then released? If all that verifiably exists is an announcement or a coming-soon promise about a title then there's already a word for that - "vapourware".

Most of the Never Released titles will turn out to be vapourware, I'm sure.
That is one of the reasons why we try to contact all authors (mainly for permission, but also to verify softographies and to find out what happened with games that didn't turn up).

I don't even think it came out on the C64GS.. .

I never saw a mention of it on the CPC so it might not have been considered for the Speccy, although Last Ninja 1 was mentioned as a possible release on the CPC but only Ninja 2 and Remix came out.

For me its no big loss I was never a fan of any of the games.

Each series of games has it's fans and it's enemies.

I played Ninja 2 on the CPC but couldn't really get far on it. It's an intresting game on paper but not suited for the CPC or the Speccy

In which sense, "not suited"? I do not understand.
I played it on both the Spectrum and C64 and the main fault was the same - the fiddly and not user-friendly control method.
