Manic Miner is a very obvious one, with minor changes in graphics when it was re-released by software projects.

    I don't understand the question!

What games released on the Speccy had different versions.

For instance, Activision/Electric Dreams brought out Aliens, which was a FPS and YS put it on one of their covertapes. It was also re-released by Mastertronic. They also brought out Aliens USA which was based on the same film. This version was released by Alternative.

    I don't understand the question!

it happened quite a lot on the C64; with US disk versions and UK tape versions being coded by different teams. Congo Bongo being a infamous example (one version was awesome, the other utter tripe). Also with the NES/Famicom where US/UK/Japanese versions of the same game were often completely different.

Not sure if the same thing happened with the Spectrum so much, what with it being so UK centric.

Maybe later on; with the 128k spectrums, games began to differ with different/extra levels and sound; but that is expanded/improved versions rather than different (like the C64/NES examples).

Most different versions of games didn't actually see release on the Speccy (stuff like Scooby Doo, Total Recall ect)

The strangest thing I've seen was actually on the Amstrad, in that two totally different versions of Double Dragon 1 & 2 were released. Both programmed by Binary design and released by Melborne House/Mastertronic.

I don't quite understand the question too. Is it about 48 kB and 128 kB versions of the same game or two different releases from different companies?

Well, there are games with lot of clones like Pacman or Space Invaders. It was often in early days of Spectrum. Later, publishers guarded their copyrights better.

Basically 2 different games based on the same thing with the same name.

I'm pretty sure Ocean released two versions of donkey kong or one of the early arcade games.

They originally made an unofficial conversion of it, then a while later they got the licence - so there are two versions by the same company (They may have released the first one in their very early days when they were still simply called 'Spectrum games').

There is also the DJL port of Pacman - originally called Z-man. I got it on the reverse side of my copy of Froggy.

Atarisoft acquired then re-released this unofficial version as Pacman - with only slightly altered mazes to make it more like the arcade game.

And yet again andy20066 starts a thread without contributing any replies thereafter. I didn't check to see if it is one he already did 3 months ago though. Alessandro where are you?

We could also talk about the Spanish/Italian/Elsewhere games ... Load'n'run had Terramex listed as Astemex ... which also makes sense naming-wise.

Terramex (original name) = Terra being Earth
Astemex (Load'n'Run name) = Aste ---> Asteroid as that's what you're helping to make sure doesn't hit the Earth.

Mex meaning Mexican food ... err ... or something (well, the game takes place in a very arid/desert-like area, Northern Mexico is very arid!)

Maybe he/she/it is an information hoarder? Throws out questions, then just waits and collects the answers ... can we expect a new addition to PSJs Speccy Bible? The world may perhaps never know! (I suggest that Andy20066 is PSJ!!!!!!!!!!! :-P )

Er, you lost me there. Anyway, I am pretty sure I'm not them because I've already posted more than they ever would in a thread they originally started. ;)

You might be throwing the suspicion-thingy in an attempt to cover your hiney-thingy ... and something about solar neutrinos being in a state of flux, kinda-sorta-and-not-really maybe, maybe not.

    Exactly.

You know, I recently posted on the Lemon 64 forums (burn the heretic!) and I found that the guys over there are very serious most of the time. I don't think I have seen any threads over there that even come close to the insanity of us Wossers. I feel much more at home here I must admit.

If Andy is a bot, he is written in about 3 lines of code -

    1. generate a random number

    2. pick a question from the list based on that

    3. wait a bit and go back to step 1

He doesn't use any list of already used topics and that's why the topics happen to repeat :)

Cobra had two versions, and it has always puzzled me why.

My cassette version, which Father Christmas bought me ;-) paints the loading screen a section at a time (Sly first, then his gun, them the cobra logo etc). My friends copy drew the loading screen straight down, pixels with attributes (I think).

Both versions are in the archive iirc.

Anyone know why? Always meant to ask Joffa.....

Edit: the only thing I can think of is that it was re-released when Amstrad broke the floating bus.....

Can't believe that some of you are arguing over who is Andy 2006. Its clearly Alessandro in an odd attempt to reopen his favourite old threads (start a new thread, wait for a couple of people to reply, then reopen the old threads).

And does World Cup Carnival/world cup football count?

Was the gameplay the same on both?

There's a different version of Renegade without the press '0' level skip cheat enabled.

I remember playing it at my mates house and discovered it straight away with the keys defined to cursors, as everytime I pressed fire, I skipped to the next level.

    Edit:
Also there is an extremely rare version of Fairlight that was recalled before the sale date because it never had the Alkatraz copyright message. It also doesn't have a joystick option.
Think I have the only existing copy that survived being recalled and remastered with the updated version. Fairlight Release1 in the archive is from my tape. Very collectable with it also being the first release of the Alkatraz loader as well. If someone wants to offer a stupid amount of money for it.......hint......
