Ive got a major gripe with it. The text is practically unreadable on my 32 " SD TV the books are readable but everything else , subtitles item labels etc i have had to get up and move closer to the tv numerous times today. I dont understand why they have all that space on the screen yet they use a tiny piddly little bit to put the text in. Ive had no problems with fallout new vegas so i dont understand this. The graphics look bad aswell.
I know i should upgrade my TV but why dont they at least have a text size option for god sake.
Been playing on PC for the last two hours and I'm absolutely riveted by it. I was pretty much totally sold when I got to the inn in Riverwood and got the minstrel Sven to sing a couple of songs for me!
It looks absolutely beautiful on PC, by default it stuck my settings on High but I upped it to Ultra with no performance loss. I've a decent setup but nothing special really: Quad-core, 4Gb RAM, W7 64-bit, 896Mb GTX260. It plays really great with the 360 controller too.

Sorry, but I lost all sympathy when I re-read that and noticed "SD TV" :-)

Here are three options currently available to you:
1) Move chair closer to TV.
2) Get glasses.
3) Upgrade TV.

I've played a good few hours now and loving it. Done a couple of dungeons (blimey, they are a lot better than Oblivion's), and mainly dossed about around Riverwood. Love the stuff you can do, like smithing, tanning (leathers, etc - not sunbathing :-p), using the grindstone and cooking.
Here's a pic of my Khajiit character, "Joe" (named by my daughter :-)).
After an hour or so of play i have actually got used to the small text on the SD telly its nowhere near as bad as deus ex 3 the text on that was squashed along with everything else.
Still not got this...went in for my first shift yesterday at Game and had to avoid all the other staff as they were wearing fake Skyrim helmets and fighting each other with fake swords and talking about nothing else.....
Sold loads of copies of it, which is making me wonder if any are going to be left come Tuesday when I'm hoping to buy it!
It doesn't look like I'll be getting it with any money I make in Game though...four hours this week and it seems I'm only getting four hours next week too...doesn't get much more part time than that, does it???
I have to say I'm really liking this new way of lockpicking...seems more like actual lockpicking!
Yeah, it's virtually the same as in the Fallout games, better and more skill based.
Heh, you can mine stuff. Take a pick axe into a mine and you can get metal ores, which you can then smelt into ingots, and then use at a forge to improve your armour/weapons. Nice.
Tip: Don't f*** with giants, one wiped me out in one kick
Me too! In fact I shot about 70 feet in the air off that one swipe!
Haha, same here! I went back and managed to kill him afterwards, but it did take me ages. Slowly trying to make my way to the mages college at the mo, it's a long old jaunt, but I'm finding lots of cool stuff along the way.

I read that that is a bug but it didnt happen to me the one time i foolishly had a go at one.
I like how the giants dont attack on sight and flail their arms telling you to get away giving you good chance to scarper.
I just finished the "Fighters Guild" Initiation and was dreading having to use a companion due to the AI being a pain and always getting in the way in Oblivion but the companion didnt get in the way once in Skyrim.
I also like how they used elements from Two Worlds 2's alchemy system where it keeps the recipes so you can quickly brew a frequently used potion providing you have the ingredients.
Wortcraft (eating raw ingredients) is also useful now in finding out what the first effect is. I did have to mute the tv during my alchemy experiments in the cauldron shop as the shop keeper kept banging on about her stock over and over again.
yeah you could do it in Morrowind - never bothered with Alchemy myself so that was the closest I'd get
Really? You should give it a go dude, lots of money to be made once you get your skill up and find some decent recipes.
When I last left the game, I was just furnishing my newly acquired house (in Whiterun). Now I have lots of storage space it's time to randomly wander around and start getting into pinching stuff.

 damn....I usually find something to waste money on everytime I get up to about 3k in cash so am currently stashing all my swag (well, mainly bits of dragons) in the Companions hall thing and I've left my doggy to guard it....well and help me remember which chest it is
Also finally got into the Thieves Guild so no longer have piles of unsellable goodies cluttering up my inventory

Yeah, my character is loving the alchemy at the moment...!
In fact, it's the only thing he appears to be quite good at. Oh, and summoning pitifully weak creatures to act as distractions the enemy can trip over whilst I'm heroically running away from just about everything... :-o
I'm level 10 now but have come to the conclusion that I should upgrade to some armour, light at very least. I'm wearing robes at the moment because I wanted to be all magickey, but if anything manages to get near me swinging a big weapon (fnar) I'm usually dead in a couple of blows.
Hehe..only got it last night and I'm level 16 already! Have already spent way too long playing this....but I'm not going to stop!
Loving it so far...has anybody else encountered a chap who goes by the name of Barbas? Interesting fellow.. :D
I've also made it into the inner circle of the Companions, and have just finished off a particularly nasty spook whose story I now need to investigate....
Just as a matter of interest, what does everybody call their characters? Do you make up names for them? And do you keep it the same for every Elder Scrolls or do you make a new one each time?
I've been Lettuce Pepperham throughout the games! :D A name which arose in a private joke with some mates of mine....

Errr "Wookiee" it is I'm afraid
got into the circle too myself today - so far seems to have no draw backs and seems more optional than some other errr career choices in Elder Scrolls games
Mine's "Grien Khard". Just feels a bit more Elder Scrollsy spelled like that. :-D
Mine is Drahcir, mostly because I was too excited to come up with anything better at the time.
I have not been able to play it anywhere near as much as I wanted to yet though. My kids (2 and 3 years old) and wife won't let me. I can't play the game in front of the kids (zombies, gore etc), which isn't a problem because my computer is in our bedroom, but the wife won't let me go in there to play because she plays it too and if she can't play she won't let me either. Her computer is in the living room, so the kids are the problem there too.
So, really I have to wait until the kids go to bed every night.
Comments
I have 2 things to say:
1) I officially hate you from now on.
2) Can you look for some porn? I'm at work and I think it would be a great way to dodge the firewall.
Well, I'm atm watching you hunting a deer. Even with that quality, it looks awesome.
Hi, beware of that wolf :)
I'm going to disconect or I'll be fired. I hope I can put my hands on this game soon :P
In fact, scratch that - I've just seen how big her blacksmith husband is!

Sorry to hear that, mate. It's annoying when they assume that everyone has a fairly recent HD telly. There's a gripe about it on Bethesda's forums here: http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1258656-unplayable-on-sdtv/
Let's hope they do a fix for it.

HAHA!! Thanks chief I'll bear that in mind...Giant = Run Like The Clappers!
You can cook as well it would appear - I'm being sad and reading the manual...

( Pinched from retro gamer forum funny picture thread)
I was chatting to a mate about this yesterday, I'm sure you could do that in Morrowind too?
Although, yeah...I'll probably be back before that actually....once they cut off my electricity.... ;)

Are we to understand this that your wife plays Skyrim too??? (If so, then cool!)
