Hehe..only got it last night and I'm level 16 already! Have already spent way too long playing this....but I'm not going to stop!
Loving it so far...has anybody else encountered a chap who goes by the name of Barbas? Interesting fellow.. :D
I've also made it into the inner circle of the Companions, and have just finished off a particularly nasty spook whose story I now need to investigate....
Just as a matter of interest, what does everybody call their characters? Do you make up names for them? And do you keep it the same for every Elder Scrolls or do you make a new one each time?
I've been Lettuce Pepperham throughout the games! :D A name which arose in a private joke with some mates of mine....

Blimey, that's some going. I've been playing it 27 hours now and I'm on level 14. On the main quest I've only done up to the bit where you kill the first dragon, triggering the random dragon attacks. I won't be touching the main quest again for yonks.
Not done any guild stuff yet. I've been mostly exploring the central Tundra area, doing side quests, dungeons or just exploring. I say "mostly", as I ended up in the city of Marketh one morning after passing out after a drinking contest with someone in Whiterun. Marketh is gorgeous.
Finally saved up enough cash for a house, so I don't need to carry all my stuff around :-p
Dual wielding is great, dwarven axe in the left hand and a dwarven mace in the right. I probably dual wield and use a mace/fire spell combo in equal amounts. I like how you can improve weapons and armour by smithing, got most of my stuff up to "Exquisite" level.
Hehe...some good names there! Have to say I'm loving the dual-wield as well...normally I go for sword in one-hand and healing spell in the other, but yesterday I went for some fighting with a sword in each hand! Awesome fun!
I've got as far as learning my first full shout, and somehow got wound up in another main quest that the person involved in wants me to hurry up and get done, but I think I'll just ignore them and wander off on my own again for a bit...
Killed about four dragons now, and one last night was hilarious...my brother came downstairs and I was showing him a random fox running about in the wild, and saying how cool it was that their were more things like rabbits, foxes, etc. and how it seemed to be a much better eco-system in this game...
Suddenly a mammoth appeared, and the poor fox didn't know which way to run, trapped between me and the mammoth. I was like, "yeah, stuck between a rock and a hard place now, eh, little fox!?"....Just then, a bloody dragon lands and decides to attack the mammoth...the fox legged it!
Another mammoth appeared, and with their help of it and the original one, I took the dragon down in seconds..only for a skeleton warrior to pop up from below it after I absorbed it's soul who almost bloody killed me! It made for a rather frantic, but enjoyable example of just how mad the game can turn in just a few seconds...
Finally stumbled across and joined the thieves guild last night. Finished the first proper mission for them, and dang it was difficult! I remember flying through all of their missions in Oblivion (even the last one, which was reeeeaaally easy), but this one mission took me the whole of last night to finish. :o
Reading through the above posts, it's great to see that everyone seems to be having very different experiences with the game. Awesome stuff! :)
I like how your house furnishings now include book cases and weapon racks!
Had a funny glitch last night: got an arrow stuck in my head - in from the back of the head and sticking out of my face! Looked funny in 3rd person mode, or when at an alchemy lab etc. It went when I got involved in an altercation with some skeletons who fired a few arrows at me.
What perspective are people playing in - first or third person?
I played the entirety of Oblivion in first as third just looked terrible, but Skyrim I've switched. I just like having a wider field of view (also what's behind me) and the combat feels a little less clunky.
Can I ask what machines people are playing on and whether they're happy with their particular version. Ta!
360 here. I did have a commonly reported issue of some textures not loading properly, eg when viewing your hands in first person, or the odd table top or wall, etc.
Bethesda have acknowledged this as an issue and are working on it for their next patch. As a work around they suggest uninstalling the game from the Xbox hard drive and running from disc. I installed it to my USB memory stick (quicker and quieter than running from the DVD drive) instead and the textures are great now.
I had an issue with a side quest, The House of Horrors. There's a bug with this that means you can't complete it. This has been reported on Bethesda's forums, so it should be fixed for the next update, hopefully. I think I'll be ok with the many, many more things to do in the meantime!
Not had any crashes, yet, or game-breaking bugs like I got with Fallout: New Vegas. So I'm really pleased with it so far after 30 hours of gameplay.

Aye, third person in Skyrim is a dramatic improvement. In Oblivion, I also just played in first person. Now when out travelling I use third person, but tend to switch to first person for combat (especially archery).
I discovered last night that you can indeed pick things up in the 360 version! Just hold down A for a second when the item's highlighted, and then you'll be able to move it about to your heart's content! Handy when decorating your house, but I did go back and find that a lot of the stuff had moved around again and ended up on the floor after I'd been on a quest....maybe that was that servant lass that lives in my house with me though...
Only had a couple of issues...while looking around at the eastern side of the map, I noticed a lot of the water was see-through where it wasn't meant to be, and a few walls disappeared on buildings too..but nothing too bad, it just too me out from being immersed for a second or two..
And I had one rather annoying crash, where the game froze after I'd just went through a rather lengthy battle against a giant, several bears and a dragon..but luckily it had auto-saved just as I'd started fighting the dragon, so it wasn't too bad....
But yeah, I just finished exploring a lighhouse, and I'm now off to deal with a rather nasty bunch who have been giving the Companions a bit of a hard time...

Aye, I accidentally discovered that the other night. :)
only one bug so far - a ruined tower that I had to clear out for the first Companion quest didn't render so I couldn't get into it....just black voids where the archways to the inside should have been and very blurred looking stone walls....thankfully none of the people I had to kill were inside so I was still able to do the quest
not been back to see if any of the patches I've had has fixed it yet but not too fussed as I doubt I'll ever need to go there again.
In general I'm loving it, not really been following any quest lines far just mooching about the place mainly doing side quests. So not really found anything really amazing (example, I still use the Imperial Officers hat you get from the very first fight as it's lighter than anything you can buy with the same armour)....
Also - if anyone runs into someone selling a Nighteye spell....do let me know, Magelight and Candlelight are all very well but I prefer sneaking about without a bloody star thing hovering over my head
Can I ask what machines people are playing on and whether they're happy with their particular version. Ta!
I have been playing the PC version. I have all of the graphical options on Ultra and as high as they will go and it has been smooth as butter with no bugs. I think it must be quite well programmed because it runs well on high settings on my wife's computer which I wasn't expecting. Her machine has a GeForce GT430 1GB which only cost $59.99. Although she does have 4GB of RAM and some Intel dual core CPU in there.

That's the main reason I chose to be a Khajiit this time around - they can see in the dark. You get Nighteye as a special ability to use at will.
38 hours in now, and level 18. Still exploring the central/western areas of the map. Just been in this inn which had the ghost of a Nord in it. Yet another interesting side quest to add to the list.
I love timesink games like this - there should be more of them :-P
there seems to be a lot more in dungeon lighting (clearly that long haired fop off the telly has been round telling the goblins and whatnot that light adds space and value to their bijou residence) than previous games
But there are still pitch black parts....thank the lord Draughr(?) have shiny blue eyes or I'd have been hacking a wall to death while they just laughed at me.
Having said that I do still want night eye for my sneaky exploits - with luck mages guild or maybe the Dark Brotherhood will sort me out.....gutted the Thieves couldn't :(
Last night some guy tricked me into a cage trap, but as I'm a bit handy with the lockpicking I managed to sneak out and stab him while his back was turned..hehe...
I also lopped off a bandit's head and was mesmerised by it as it floated off down the river, tumbling over waterfalls and the like.....
Oh, and for some reason I can't absorb Blood Dragon's souls...dunno if they have any or not, but I've killed two or three and they just sit there dead and don't burn up like the others?
Loving the Northern Lights type effects though...first saw those after popping out from a cave entrance. It was daylight when I went in too, so it was a nice surprise! :)

Hmmm, I've not had this yet with the four or so I've killed. It could be a bug, I have read about it on Beth's forums. A new patch has been submitted for certification, and they expect it to go live next week. Hopefully it'll have that bug fixed.

Ah...okay..cheers! Thought it might be a bug, 'coz I was sure I had already absorbed at least one Blood Dragon's soul already....still, no biggie..I'm still able to absorb other dragon's souls, and I seem to be finding rather a few! :D
Just read that you can "hotkey" two items to the 360 D-pad.
When in the Favourites menu (Press up or down on the D-pad), scroll to an item and hold either left or right on the D-pad for a second or so. It will then be hot-keyed to that button. Quite handy for frequently used items.

Yeah she does. I bought one copy from Steam. As long as one of us is disconnected from the internet we can both play it at once, which is nice.
Ive used Lister of Smeg for my character since Morrowind

Me too. It's crashed once, in the middle of a fight but otherwise been fine so far. Found the same with Oblivion once in a while.

Check out the third one. Like Google Maps for Skyrim - it's incredible!

In Oblivion, at night, or if you went into a cave, you needed a torch or nighteye or you could barely see anything in front of you.
...Or maybe I just haven't found a particularly dark area yet.. :-D
But there are still pitch black parts....thank the lord Draughr(?) have shiny blue eyes or I'd have been hacking a wall to death while they just laughed at me.

Works for me. I hope it is a glimpse of what the DLC will bring, that'd be bloody amazing!

I'm pretty sure this isn't in the manual.
