This year...

edited December 2011 in Chit chat
As BiNMaN pointed out elsewhere, there have been quite a lot of new games released for the ol' Speccy in MMXI. I'm just wondering if you lot could break the three figure barrier by Christmas? Then again, at a rate of two a week, this will happen anyway without any prompting, so keep up the good work guys.

Regards,

Shaun.

I'm working on SpecTank, the first sort-of-serious Spectranet multiplayer game (a capture-the-flag top down tank based game, well, at first - more game modes may arrive later). Hopefully I'll have a playable demo ready for Replay! The game mechanics are all there, but I have one evening to write the match-up system...

I am sorry that ZX81 doesn't count, at 6 now and rising!

    What's the count right now?

I'm saying 'cause, most likely, we'll be releasing at least three more titles for the speccy before Dec 31st.

how do they compare up to speccy games being released back in the day?

It depends on which you consider "back in the day": 1982 or 1990  ;)

At this rate I'm surprised the Mojon Twins alone haven't broken it already!

Not this year. We have only released 3 Speccy games so far. Last year was better for us.

It has been a good year for games, us Speccy fans are very lucky to have such a great (and geographically very wide) pool of such talented people selflessly working on games and utilities for us.

I don't follow any other machine's fan scene closely, so I don't know how similar the C64/CPC/Atari 8-bit/BBC/Oric/etc people have it to us, but I think it's a safe bet that no computer's fans are having as good a retro-time as us Speccy types!

P.S. Can you tell that I've had a few drinks? :p:p:p

P.P.S. I must be drunk - I've just caught sight of myself in the mirror, and thought I was seeing two Brad Pitts! (A reference to a different thread).

The '81 is probably well into 2 digits by now, as my 2 http://www.bobs-stuff.co.uk/minerman.html & http://www.bobs-stuff.co.uk/boulderlogic.html would make 8, and the Mojon Twins' conversion of Nanako to 9, and I'm sure there's been a few others as well.

If you exclude re-releases, I'm sure this year will compare very well, and to think that next year is the 30th anniversary of the technology :-)

Actually, I'm wondering how the number of releases on the Speccy compare to the XBox 360 and PS3 this year?

    Regards,

    Shaun.

98 titles so far - so close... so who's going to write the 100th release then? ;-)

Okay, so they're not all games, but it's certainly good to see.

    Regards,

    Shaun.

Well sounds like youre having a crazy rock n roll lifestyle at the moment if you looked in the mirror and you had two Brad Pitt lookalikes next to you, better not ask what went on next.

I did Horace didn't I? Oh, that was last year. How about another in my great "Text-only" series, after the success of "Text-only Grand Prix"? Nope? And you're not interested in my ZX81 stuff either? Hmmm... Suppose you'll be wanting me to write Chuckie Apple next?

Yes, return to Zx Spectrum, Bobs. I could give you some inspirations if you don't know what to do.

    ZX81 is sooo obsolete ;)

It's happened... 101 and counting! Well done to the Speccy community for being so productive this year.

    Shaun.
