What were you trying to do with Windows? Why are you unhappy with it?

You know, over 90% of people run it everyday, they browse internet, run applications, play games are never thought about changing it to other system.

And I'm a bit amused that you discovered Windows in 2011 :)

Welome to the crap that they call Windows... Personally you would be better off with Ubuntu or if your a pureist install Debian. I'm on the virge of binning Windows too. I duel boot xp and Ubuntu 11.10 on my netbook, but my HTPC is to shortly have Ubuntu added to it too once I get the time... If you really must still run Windows programs under Ubuntu, you can use Wine emulator which allows Ubuntu to run Windows programs (and which will nicely annoy M$).

I used windows right back to 3.11 and its always been crap and i always had a dual boot but the dual boot ends tonight. I have had years of **** from windows like slowing down even after cleaning up the hard drive and such and the amount of virus's you get is stupid. Yes i have a lot of games and such for it but i cant use it any more it does my head in. I have a console for the games anyway so that's no big thing for me.

Windows 8 is going to be the worst of the bunch from what i have been reading about it. Glad I wont be getting it.

Just burning the new version of zorin os now and doing a nice fresh install. Its linux mint 10 but with some major fixes and some nice eye candy.

I hate how everything needs updating all the time, and no matter how much you disable programs at start up ever so often they worm their way back, and then when you just want to do something quick, everything is causing a ball ache, and pissing about too busy to do anything useful, like quickly print that e-mail before you leave for work

I am also sick of installing all the drivers for my stuff

You do realize Linux Mint 12 was released just the other day? http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=1889

From what I've read it's a top notch distro without all the crap that Ubuntu pulled in their latest releases (which might explain its current #1 spot on DistroWatch 'popularity contest').

Personally I'm on Debian (stable) these days, problem with lesser used distro's like Zorin OS is that there's often just a few people working to keep it up with security updates etc. If you just pick it for eye candy, might as well pick the distro it derives from, and slap some nice themes onto that.

the gfx drivers for the newer linux mints have been very below par and ati dont support them just yet. I did email ATI and they have said they will very soon so at least i hold out some hope.

right now with the old linux mint 10 and all the stuff added from Zorin OS i get a really good system but then i should with a intel core 2 quad and 4gb of ram along with a radeon 5770

Never had a virus on any of my Windows PCs. The missus and the 13-year olds never got any virus on their PCs either. If people are getting viruses all the time and need a user-resistant PC, I completely understand. They're probably doing something that exposes their O.S. :-)

Personally the major use I could imagine for any of the millions of different Linux distributions is to rejuvenate 10 or more years old PCs which can't cope with today's software. I've been using Windows 16 years by now, in different flavors, and never, ever had any major problems. All the real troubles I had were hardware-related ones, mostly with hard disk failures.

Don't like Windows? Fine. But please avoid such fanboyism - you're getting nowhere with it.

By the way, 90% of the software I use both at home and work is unavailable for (any) Linux, and the alternatives available aren't good enough for my needs. Therefore I absolutely see no use for messing with Gnome, KDE and all that stuff. That does not mean it is rubbish of course - but I can't do almost anything with it.

Do you suggest visiting dirty websites? :)

And I agree, it all depends what you do with your system. For example, for the last 6 years I never had to reinstall the system, but I know people who have to do it every three months :) I'm just not touching things that I'm not supposed to touch.

I'm using XP, so I don't have personal experience but I have heard about "Are you sure that you want to...?" harassing in later versions, but it has to be possible to turn off :)

What a sensible and logical thread. Oh wait, no it's not, it's bonkers. :-o

If you don't like Windows, don't use Windows. If you don't like Linux, don't use Linux. If you don't like OS X, don't use OS X. If you don't like OS/2 don't use OS/2. If you don't like Solaris, don't use Solaris. If you don't like RSX-11, don't use RSX-11. If you don't like CP/M don't use CP/M. If you don't like QNX don't use QNX. If you don't like Plan 9 from Bell Labs, don't use Plan 9 from Bell Labs...

There, that should solve everyone's problems.

Indeed, if you just like having something to rant about on forums then use your least favourite operating system. It should provide literally minutes of entertainment for everyone else reading about how much you hate using a particular operating system.
