Maybe they've improved it, but when I last saw it (admittedly around launch time) the whole thing was something like a 17-stage process...

I guess they did, then. I didn't get my PS3 back then, I always thought the original one looked like a monstrous tombstone. I didn't get the first slims either. In fact, I was fairly reluctant to buy a Sony console. However, as the amount of interesting games I couldn't play anywhere else grew and grew, I eventually got myself a 320GB slim boxed with Uncharted 2 cheap and today I am still really glad that I did.

On the other hand, the PS3 has some great exlclusives of it's own, has Wi-fi built in (it's ?40 for the 360's adapter)
IIRC the new slim 360s have WiFi built in.

I don't really see what the fuss about multi discs is. I've got over 50 Xbox games and maybe only 5 are on more than one disc. I can only think of FFXIII and Dead Space 2 at the moment, and I'm not counting ODST as that's due to having the Halo 3 maps free with it so you can play H3 online with ALL the maps, ODST is only on ONE disc.

Maybe Lost Odyssey and The Last Remnant are on multi discs aswell.
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

Well, technically, not really exclusives, are they? You can try them on PC and even Mac to see if you like the series... Except Forza, but PS3 got Gran Turismo instead, which makes it an obvious choice for me in this regard, too.

i know but the thread is about 360 and ps3 :p

the op said he didn't want to go down the pc route. i assume he can't try them or will want them on a pc.

Also, to make matters worse I have thought of a third option ? a 3DS. As I am married (to a woman who is not the slightest bit interested in video games) with two young children, I do not get the TV to myself all that often, so perhaps the 3DS may offer some good on-line gaming without lounge hogging? Anything to be said for the 3DS? (I did briefly have a Wii to play Mario Kart but thought it was very disappointing on-line, so I would hope the 3DS version is better (on-line)).

Let me know what you think. Cheers.

has anyone mentioned the 3ds? or did all the 360 and ps3 peeps just look at the title and jump in. :p

never played a 3ds, but the online stuff for the ds was great, mario kart was far better on that than the wii version.

think thata ll i ever played though, i imagine the list is going to be kinda short for the handheld

    Yeah, I did...
The 3DS is a totally different machine really. it's handheld and really doesn't compare to the big consoles. The 3D effect is quite good, but the novelty soon wears off. Aside from Zelda OOT, there's nothing relly "must have" out there for it if you as me. I find the recent Mario games boring and I played the new Mario Kart at the weekend and thought it was slow!

If I had to side one way or the other over Xbox or PS3, I'd opt for Xbox as I play that one the most and all my multi-format games are on that. Apart from Assassins Creed II, Brotherhood and the new one. Those are on PS3, but that's because I was bought II for Christmas one year and decided to play the rest on the same machine ;-)

I bought my Xbox 360 Halo Edition 3-4 years ago. I haven't had any problems with it, and it has given me many nights of gaming pleasure, so I can't really complain.

As a gamer, it doesn't really matter to me whether System A is better under-the-hood than System B. What matters to me is what kind of games can I play and are they any good. I'm not too bothered about exclusives either - every system will have its own set of exclusives. IAC, nowadays there is such a wealth of games on both systems that it doesn't really matter.

Both Sony and MS will have learned valuable lessons from this generation of consoles, not only in terms of the system but also the overall eco-system, end-user expectations (remember how Wii trounced the two heavy-weights early on in the battle?) and on-line play. The next generation of consoles will be something to watch out for.

What does IAC mean? Indeed After Consideration, I acknowledge Cheerfully, In All Circumstances? I must be more tired than I thought, as I can't get a single possible three word phrase that I imaging you might have meant. Looks like hair loss, weight gain, and lack of energy aren't my only symptoms of old age, now my IQ is plummeting. Not that it was especially high to begin with, I admit, but I used to tower comfortably over Mile and Mel in the brains department. Now I'm worried that I'll end up like them, staring at a traffic light, thinking it's a UFO... :-o

Yes, it does, you can use standard controller instead of the remote quite easily...

I don't know how it looks on a standard def tv. I would expect, well, kind of standard. :)

It looks just the same as it would on a hi-def TV.

Mainly cos a DVD isn't a High Definition video format...

If it's like the Xbox on a standard telly then some writing can be difficult to read. Things like Resident Evil 5 are readable because of the larger font, but things like Dead Space (the log files) and Magic the Gathering are difficult as the print is small.

Overall the 360 is good on a standard telly though and I'm pretty sure the PS3 is the same.

The picture look perfectly good, I guess you could say it's a better picture than a PS2 but quite as good as the hi-def version.

My award for most unreadable text so far goes to Dungeon Siege 3!

I've had the game for a while and it looks good (I liked the Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance and the Norrath games on PS2) - but it will have to wait until we finish off the lounge and buy a big telly before I can play it.

It's completely impossible to read the stats menus for all the items that you pick up in the game or tell what any of the character upgrades really do!
