Try to remembering arcade beat 'em up
Hmmm, I wonder if anyone can help me remember the name of an arcade beat 'em up I played while on holiday (on some Spanish island) years ago.
Here's what I can remember.
Any ideas? Sorry this is pretty vague :???:
Is there an arcade site somewhere where you can search a screenshot archive like in WoS?
Here's what I can remember.
- I played it back around 1990-2ish in some Spanish arcade though it was probably an American/Japanese machine.
- I've no idea whether it was a popular game or not.
- It was a top-down view (like Commando) gang beat 'em up.
- You weren’t a ninja or a karate expert, just a regular street thug (possibly wearing a white t-shirt?)
- The levels I remember were set in rough urban streets
- You could punch/kick etc and pick up weapons. I remember a baseball bat.
- I think it was pretty slow-paced and the graphics and sound weren't amazing but I quite enjoyed it.

AVENGER
Not that one. It was more gritty and less fantasy and 'cartoony' than than Avengers. It is that type of top-down view though.
It's also more slow-paced than that. Each enemy took quite a few hits to finish off.
It doesn't look up to much now, but when you're on holiday with your parents and there's only a couple of arcade games in town...
Cheers for your help!
i remember being in a pizza shop in malta when i was a kid, me and my brother used to spend a fortune in a WWF arcade machine, then one day some old fella came up and start asking in we were wrestling fans (sounds a bit dodgy now i come to think of it) but it was the only machine for miles so we told him no, and continued playing.
No worries.
Me and a few mates used to play an old WWF machine loads, in the back room of a casino/amusements place (one of those things full of fruit machines). We were too young to be in there, but there was this one woman who'd let us in to play the wrestling game out the back. I always thought it was called Saturday Nights Main Event, but I've not been able to find any trace of it since, so I think it was probably WWF Wrestlefest or something. Good times. :-)
...oh, and it's one of the game options when you start. I should have played it a bit first before posting! ;)
WWF is **** today, its all fake and for kids.
back then it was political!!!
and you'd get a cop beating up a wall street guy too.
It probably is that one, I guess the name just stuck in my head after seeing it on that demo mode. Great laugh though, that game.
What really gets on my nerves is the twin joystick emulation works perfectly for Smash TV and Total Carnage
Yeah, getting stuff to run right in MAME can be annoying at times...I want to play Ikari Warriors, but with it being Trackball controlled it's a nightmare....
Yes there is. MAWS is good, but I've always found it a little hard to use so I use this site...

I found it to be an invaluable site when I first discovered MAME and I still use it from time to time too. It's got a great (and easy to use) search feature. You can search by game type, year of manufacture or software company, so if you have a rough idea of a games release, or if you can remember who made it, but that's all, then you can just do a seach for the company and search through the games that come up. I used this to find The Combatribes for example because I could remember who made it (Tecmo) but that was it. I found the game within a couple of minutes. The site holds no ROMS though, so you'll still need to look elsewhere for those ;-)
I've been thinking of trying to get hold of a trackball controller to play some of these games properly. Combat School for example would be nice to play with the trackball as I've only ever used a stil for that. I'm also thinking of picking up a PC stearing wheel to play Out Run and Power Drift properly too :-)

I've always thought about getting into MAME. Maybe now is the time :)
