There are so many reasons why I am glad I have the PC version
  • edited December 2011
I think I'm somewhere between 50 and 100 hours now, but I haven't uploaded any patches so far (Xbox).

I might try the latest one (1.3) though if it's out and works OK. Haven't found too many bugs but don't want to muck things up for later on.

Been great so far on 1.3. Magical resistance is working as it should. Haven't noticed much of a difference from 1.1, it's mostly "under the bonnet" tweaks. Over 90 hours in, level 31, and trying to raise 8 grand for a second house, the one in Markarth. Loving it!

Well, I got the last main quest mission out of the way...and all I can say is that I recommend people go ahead and continue with the main quest, if they want some awesome goodies to use in other missions....

You apparently still get random dragons to fight and it doesn't seem to affect anything else too much from what I've seen, so if you've been holding off doing the quest for these reasons (as I was) then there's no need to worry. And the stuff which I have at my disposal now makes dragon-fighting and tricky quests quite a good bit more manageable!

Will still be playing Skyrim for a long time to come, maybe even from the start with a different character eventually as I know form talking to a mate that the end of the game can be a bit different if you haven't completed the War missions like I had....

Just quoting the above from the "currently playing" thread for any Skrim players who might not read that, so as they know that finishing the main story seems to have little effect on any other missions and actually gives you some nifty bonuses to help out with things! :)

I'll be tackling the main quest very soon, just finished the war stuff, darn good fun. Annoyingly enough though, it's triggered a bug in that Hadvar appears and follows me around Whiterun whenever I'm there, which is quite often as I live there. He only follows in the streets and in Dragonsreach, but it's still a bit of a pain in the boobs.

Got married now too, to Ysolda. She lives at my house, and pays me 100 gold a day. Lydia is still sitting in my bedroom. Not a bad setup really.

prefer Mjoll.....she carves through dungeons and carries more stuff than Lydia ever did....and still pays me for being married ;)

You made the better choice; Ysolda cannot be used as a companion (but she does make a lovely meal ), and you can't marry Lydia.

i wish they'd have sorted the AI out a bit too, especially the things they say.

'oh i must be hearing things'

you've got four arrows in the back man, and all your bandit chums are laying dead next to you.

I know, it's like that Hadvar that keeps following me, keeps going on about whether "such-and-such" soldier is a traitor, and who has a higher kill tally in the war etc., but the war's over now. It's like he just can't let go, war is all he knows. A bit like Rambo.

Last night he said "Dragonborn, eh? Was it your mum or dad that was the dragon?". Almost killed him right there and then, the bugger!

yeah id rather they say nothing than repeat themselves 14 million times. :p

i usually get them calling me a sneak thief, or giving me thier thoughts on imperials.

    I've got 150 hours in now. :-o

It started off tough, then got a bit easier, then tougher, now most encounters seem reasonably easy. (Am playing on adept difficulty level).

I was surprised how quickly some non-combat skills go up compared to the combat skills (just by using them). I've used smithing here and there where I can and it's in the 90s now. I use destruction magic pretty much exclusively for combat and it's only 50-odd I think.

Had one annoying bug (kept freezing/crashing on me) but I think it was because there was a lot of enemies on the screen at once.

Why else would you use it? :p ;)

I'm about the same though, 151 hours in when I checked my save before switching off last night, adept difficulty. I'm finding everything pretty easy to kill at the mo, apart from the ancient dragons I guess, but they're not very difficult either, they just take ages, what with all their flying around and stuff. I've found that the questlines I've finished (mages guild and war stuff) are way shorter than those in Oblivion and, far more noticeably, Morrowind, but there appears to be tons more side quests than in previous games. It'll be interesting to see how big the DLC will be when it lands...

I always worry when some of the guards start whispering hail Sithis at me as I wander past....what kind of moral basket cases are these guys :???:

Still enjoy those random encounters with guards asking me to stop shouting as I Whirlwind Sprint around the town

early on when i used to sneak about id go nude, just wearing my modesty pouch and my sneaking boots, cos i didn't want my armour jangling about, id get some funny comments from people, then one day some kid said something about being able to afford clothes, and as i was going into my house, he followed me to finish off what he was saying. i thought if a guard walked in now, id end up on the register.

 yeah yeah a likely story

I find that bloke who works for Belethor in Whiterun always follows me into Breezehome when he's carrying wood about...maybe I should worry

170 odd hours in, level 39, and playing on Master difficulty. I'm quite rock hard with one-handed weps; got most of those perks and have enchanted apparel with fortify one-handed. When an Elder Dragon lands, I can usually tw*t it with a couple of dual-wield power attacks, thanks in part to the perk which grants a 50% damage bonus for such attacks.

Having a companion helps, especially when you kit them out well. I might try going solo for a while, and buy a horse to travel around in. I tried playing the game for a while without fast-travelling. It's worth trying, makes the game seem much bigger.

Still got the northern half of the map to explore, not yet visited Solitude, Winterhold, Windhelm, etc.

out of interest what kind of damage are you doing with your one handed?

I'm level 43 and have about 103 hrs game time logged so far

I use a Daedric War Axe doing 72 base damage and 23 fire damage....I use enchantments to boost my carry weight rather than one handed but gave Mjoll buffs to her two handed on her armour and she can take down most basic enemy types in one or two swings from her Daedric greatsword - I've seen some people with crazy high damage ratings though but not sure how they're getting there (unless it's these enchantment buffs etc)

i can't abide companions, never liked them in any of the games. only took one out for a tester once.

at level 29 now after 50 hours, ive really slowed down leveling up, 10 hours and only raised one level.

i did think about walking everywhere, but with only a couple of hours to play a night, i decided against it quite early on.

I've enchanted my ring (fnar!) to do something like 44% more one-handed damage (as well as around 44% shock resistance), and my gauntlets now give me another 44% to one-handed, and fortify my magicka by 60 points or so. I think my glass sword does around 85 base damage, but I can now make a better one with my maxed out smithing potions, I just haven't bothered to do it yet.

Nope, me neither. They always seem to get in my way when I'm fighting.

When wearing both the ring and necklace of Eminent Wielding (which each increase one-handed by 30%), the Ebony mace (flawless) in my left hand does 85 base damage, with 21 frost damage. The Eleven War Axe (Legendary) in my right hand does 91 base and 26 fire damage.

Plus, I can increase that even further by necking fortify one-handed potions.

I've invested quite a lot of perks in the one-handed, smithing and enchanting skills. Just got the "Arcane Blacksmith" perk - very handy for improving weps/armour that have already been enchanted, eg stuff you buy from vendors.

i can do about 255 damage with my glass dagger, one of the sneak perks lets you multiply it by 15. :-D

if you could hot key some commands like, wiat, go hide behind that rock, etc it's be a bit better.
