The point of Enterprise Linux distros like Red Hat is that you pay for a support contract so you know that someone will fix any bugs for you and extra bits and pieces of software that they release under different licenses that make the system more useful.
It seems like some people are a bit spoilt by the amount of software that is available for free. It seems to create an expectation that everything should be. If someone doesn't want to give away their software they don't have to...

I don't expect software for free, I will pay good money for well written, easy to use software. However I am dubious, about some of the new business models being used on the web. If they want to earn, then charge for it, if they dont then give it away, simple as that, be upfront with the financial motive. No point duping both volunteers and users that software is free when the motives are profit.

is there an app to edit out arguments about gubbins I don't understand from a thread about editing videos? :p

Quite right, lets stop this arguing over irrelevant details. Life's too short.

Tsk, I love a good argument.

Arguments are best bits of the thread...

Quite often they are most a thread.

I expected some kind of Pythonesque kind of rebuttal then. Like no they are not.

It was late and I was tired.

I can't buy Sony Vegas and don't want torrents, but my sons say Windows Movie Maker doesn't cut it anymore and crashes easily. I'm really hoping to find an alternative!

I recommend either Sony Vegas or TMPGEnc, they can both be found for free if you know where to look...

I think Windows Live Movie Maker is fine (the one that comes as part of the freely-downloadable Windows Live Essentials, not the awful thing that ships with some versions of Windows) -- it doesn't crash for me and does everything I need it to do. I'm not exactly Steven Spielberg though so YMMV.

    take this example,

supposed to be 30 seconds long, by the time I've joined the files, my converter is saying it's 31 seconds,, by the time I upload it to you tube, it's 32 seconds

Dunno... but are you the owner of that rather fine example of a Tudor Morris Minor that features at the end?

I saw one of them in Malta. It had been hit at the back end and all the wood was splintered and cracked on one side. Damn shame.

BTW I tried Sony Vegas HD11 yesterday, they might have a new customer, it was simply a joy to use, but crashed once.

If it interests you I saw loads of 70's cars in Malta. This one especially caught my eye.
