I don't make resolutions, but the Speccy one is 256*192.

I will be releasing some software for the Speccy's thirtieth anniversary.

I'll try to make a game for 30th anniversary too.

It's 23rd of April, not so far away. I can't slack too much :)

The final part of the doom trilogy?
Perhaps that's asking a bit too much!

Rather not this time :) Apart from the existing engine I have nothing done with it yet.

I have some other begun projects however. I'll try to complete one of them.

I'm going to play more Speccy games instead of just talking about them :) Mine now sits permanently beside my PC, so I can either winTZX games over to it, or in the case of 128k games play them on Spin.

Started as I mean to go on this morning with Cybernoid 2. Pretty but merciless.

Related resolution: get a Spectranet, should they become generally available...

Looks like 2012 will provide a good harvest of new Spectrum software.

I too am writing something to celebrate the last 30 years. It's about 60% done now, but I don't want to spoil the surprise - so you'll have to wait a bit longer

The resolution for me this year will be to actually finish one of my projects.

Finish Everyones a Wally, Herberts Dummy Run and Three Weeks in Paradise without tips, never did it, only Pyjamarama... a great challenge! :-)

I want to finally accomplish a certain few maps I've been working on lately.

    Har har har! icon14.gif

I had to read it twice (if not thrice) to "get it" ... I so slow, long time!

Final part of the KEYWORD trilogy?

Learn machine code in one year? I read somewhere that to really learn a programming language and become a good programmer that knows how to take advantage of it and produce decent code, you need 10 years or 10000 hours. Yes, I know opinions will vary. It was an article by someone who hates how everything is rushed nowadays. "Learn C++ in 7 hours", etc.

I'm moving to a new apartment and slowly paying off old debt, so it's an on-going resolution.

I also started going to the gym two months ago and I'm spending less and less time in front of a computer, and more time doing something for my health.

    :-)

My resolution is too make a game too as i have been truly inspired by what people have done with the speccy in 2011,so i have the same path to walk as you Rebel learning code, assembly, etc and i have starting using AGD a week ago.
I already have a head full of ideas for games but are focusing on just two main themes at the moment but i fear with my limited knowledge it might be a case of `Atari 2600 syndrome` where you see what you can fudge together then make a game out of it loool.
Who knows maybe in 2013 we may both have a nomination in the best game of 2012 poll. :)

Although not a game I intend to complete Model Railway Timetable this year - code is now at version 1.3 and probably 95%+ complete.

might actually have a go at doing something in BASIC....got distracted this year and seems I've forgotten a bunch of the key words and syntax in the *cough* waytoomany *cough* years since I last dabbled with trying to do anything

Hopefully get something rubbish but working, and not just a crummy text adventure using INPUT I$ etc ;)

Knowing me though, I'll have exactly the same resolutions in 2013!

I want to write a crap game or two this year.

Also write a game that has designed levels instead of just doing the same thing over and over again but faster.

And to actually settle on a colour graphics engine for my next game instead of re-writing loads of different ones.

I would like to get a project finished by Christmas...

It will almost certainly be spectranet related. There's the slim chance that I might make another attempt at ZXGopher this year. I think the chances of my hard disk driver being "finished" are nil unless I get help, but I should have the disk formatter utility finished in the not too distant future.

I promise to finish at least one of the games I've started... :)

Probably based on Malcolm Gladwell's stuff. Yes, 10,000 hours to achieve reputable competence in anything, but less than that to achieve hacky, workmanlike competence, which is all most of us can hope for :)

I prefer to plan things over about three years (specifically, 101 Things 1001 Days - google it if you're interested) and among my 101 Things for the next 1001 Days is to write a game in Basic. Machine code will be in the 1001 Days *following* this one :D

New, unexpected Speccy-related resolution: try to sell some of the most valuable items from my Sinclair collection because of an unexpected expense...
  • Congratulations! When's it due?
  • edited January 2012
Lol. The new place's deposit is due in 2 weeks. I guess I should've specified what I was talking about.

Finish a fishing game I started writing in 1986

Not that I do new years resolutions but that is something I would like to do.

Am going to try to finish writing a game too. It's about 60% complete so far but it's taken me about 6 months. Most of that time has been spent learning Z80 so the code is probably laughably bad. Still, it seems to be working!

Was it this?: http://norvig.com/21-days.html ("Teach Yourself Programming in Ten Years"). A great read.
