I would be careful playing them off against each other. I presume youre looking for a new job as you cant be entirely happy in the one you've got, so thats why you want to leave. A bit more money will help but if they offer you more money in your current job then surely you'll still be unhappy ?

A new start might be what you need with this new company, just know money isnt everything. Just make sure you'll be happy in this new job

Actually no, I enjoy my job. The another good opportunity is potentially opening up in a more teaching focused job rather than as a developer (who teaches as overtime). However, I'm split about whether I should stay or go.

Tell me about it, I've turned down the same promotion at work twice because I don't want it.

I'm stuck on nightshift again, I want back on days ASAP. It was less money on days, but it was worth losing that little bit of extra nightshift cash just to have my life back. If I take this "Promotion" as they call it. I'm guarenteed full time hours and quite a hefty payrise. The downside is I hate nightshift and if I took it I'd be on nightshift forever, plus I'd be in charge of everyone else I work with now.

The rest of the nighshift as a collective can only be politely referred to as a disfunctional family, and a one that I certainly don't want to be head of.

If I took this promotion I automatically leave myself open to be the company doormat, as whoever is in that position basically answers for the entire departments f*ck-ups, be it the day or night people who make the mistakes.

I really don't want my manager hunting me down every single day and grilling me about what's went wrong, and it's guarenteed things will go wrong. I'd be better off diving headfirst into a pit full of angry rattlesnakes.

Bottom line is I'd rather be a grunt working days, and be able to function normally outside of work, than be in charge on nights have lots of cash, but basically become a recluse who dies 10 years earlier than normal or ends up tying a rope around his neck.

Nightshift is just depressing enough to do that to some people.

Wasn't there a Frankie Goes To Hollywood track too? Power Of Love, if I remember rightly? Dressed as an angel?

Again, I might have dreamt it, but then if I am having dreams about Scottie singing Power Of Love dressed as an angel I should probably go see someone about it.

She turned round and told my wife I was her boyfriend

No sh*t she musn't have realised my wife was with me as we had 2 carts at the shop and I was behind her in the line. Good job the missus thought it was funny, kind of threw me off a little though. All I said was "Eh? I'm your boyfriend? I don't think your boyfriend would be too happy about that".

Haven't actually seen her since then, I have no idea if she even works there still?

One job I had, I passed a rumour around that I had an interview (which I did).

On the day I met with my manager to hand in my resignation, he handed me a letter with a pay rise that almost doubled my salary - on the condition I stayed for at least 2yrs. Like an idiot, I took the easy option & stayed. I left after 12 months and he pointed out I had promised to stay for longer, so I asked him what he was going to do about it lol.

The lesson there was that if I was going to interviews, it was because I wanted to leave, money or no money.

Last job I had, I was pushed into a promotion which meant no overtime pay, and no more shifts. I got a decent pay rise, but was still nearly ?20k down! Hated the position & wanted to go back on shift but they said no :( So I left there too lol.

Lesson there was grass isn't always greener on the other side! (Or browner if you are on a C64)

Agree with that ! If someone keeps openly mentioning how much money they earn I always think they probably cant stand their job as they have to keep justifying/trying to show off about their wage.

Difficult to get the right balance though, decent wage/not too stressful work/social life etc
