PS3 audio issues...

edited January 2012 in Chit chat
I'll be eternally grateful if anyone can help resolve this issue I've been having with my PS3. I'm basically trying to get my PS3 to go into my hi-fi using the component lead. Obviously, I've got the video leads going into the telly, and the left/right audio leads running out through a female-to-male dual phono lead to my amplifier (currently in the tape monitor port, but I have tried it in all of them to no avail). It makes a horrendous buzzing sound that I cannot seem to get rid of, and there are slow rolling bars on the screen. The phono lead I'm using is a very cheap one, so last weekend I bought myself a decent one, thinking that's where the problem was, but it does exactly the same thing. In fact, the rolling bars seem to be worse with the new lead I've bought.

I have looked for a solution online, and came across this page, but the guy there is referring to HDMI leads, and suggesting that I "break the ground prong off the plug" which sounds a bit deadly to me (I know nothing about electrical stuff, as you can all probably tell).

Anyone have any ideas that might help? They would be greatly appreciated.

should be easy to sort, I don't own a PS3 though.. enough of these modern rubbish consoles that either break / damage the games or get accounts hacked.. bag 'o sh***

    :)

ah he's on about a ground loop, get that in music studios . I used to fix em a lot in the past.

basically you using a cheap 4 way wall socket adapter ? to explain a ground loop , draw a circle... but within that one you draw another smaller, BUT with part of the smaller 1 touching the bigger circle.. so when the electric goes around , the smaller and bigger circle clash

I would say get a component out cable for the ps3, does your tv support that or solely hdmi ?

    http://www.focalprice.com/GC037X/18M_PS3_Component_Cable.html?Currency=GBP

but in the UK.. then run a splitter on the 2 phonos to double them up..

either your electric is the issue OR lack of shielding on the video cables etc you have 2 types of cable , speaker wise.. balanced and unbalanced.I would say it's more a shielding (or lack of) issue.. thats why it's having that effect on your TV

that AMP supports both balanced / unbalanced cables ?

Aye, I'm using a component lead at the mo, from the PS3 to the telly (red, blue and green wires) and amp (red and white wires). To be honest, I haven't actually tried changing the PS3 settings to output video via HDMI while putting audio out through the component, which should sort out the screen interference, but it won't sort out the buzzing, which is the main issue really. :-(

Switch it out for a Speccy, that will solve most, if not all, of your issues.

I have bought one recently actually, heatsink 128K, currently on standby for when the PS3 gets launched through a window... ;)

shift ya plugs around... the wall ones

    you using a 4 way adapter ?

    try a differnt one.

got an extension cable? try using a plug from a differnt roon.. IF so that pin points it to an earth loop..

I'd pop around and sort it out but like the taxi's I rarely go to souff london.. maybe wookie can fix it (we can give him his own BBC show, catchy title :p )

you could have earthed it to the metal frame of the futon I didn't sell..hehe

Sorted. My brother suggested unplugging the Virgin cable scart from the back of the telly (I hardly ever use it anyway), thought I'd try it first as it's nice and simple, worked a treat! Cheers for the help anyway though fog, much appreciated.
