I dont think calling someone idiot is a good way to make a point. Actually he did have his opinion and expressed himself thanking to all programmers out there making games for the Spectrum. Would I do the same? No, but thats his opinion and how he sees the poll. And anyways, its one vote for each one, it does mean any type of cheating or bad voting.

Just live and let live :)
The OP has put the poll up intending to get a fair reflection on how the WOS community view last years game releases, voting for every game is absolutely no help whatsoever.

Please explain to me how voting for a game which the voter has yet to play is within in the spirit of the poll?

If you really enjoyed 5 of the games then vote for those 5, the only real criteria is you actually have to have played them.

And for what it's worth I didn't call the offending member an idiot I merely said he was being one, which was, of course, purely for his actions regarding this poll and not 24/7.

Maybe no help but it's no hindrance either though. All it does is raise the baseline.

Granted I can see how voting for something one hasn't played is a bit odd, but it is a way of acknowledging a contribution to the scene. I can only speak for myself here but I don't see it as a sympathy vote.

Does this happen every year? :-D

Perhaps we could have an annual WoS Oscars with subcatagories for graphics, gameplay, music, technical inovation, favourite game character etc (although I do realise that Oscars have best picture catagory so it would go a full loop back to this kind of poll)
this would be a good idea. I thought Bloody Sands and Higgs Boson In The LHC had very smooth animation but didn't vote for them because they are barely 'games', they would've been contenders in a sub category though.

if it turns into speccy oscars then you need someone controversial and risque to present it, how about mile

...my bug-bear is the voting of games that the voter hasn't even played yet (on what basis is that vote cast?). I can see no sense in that whatsoever.

Then you have not read my (last) comment on my voting behaviour.

Unlike some here i have only voted once and that was for byte me. If people want to be arseholes and spoil it for the rest of us they dont deserve to be here

I decided to vote just for 3 games (as the OP suggest), because without that limitation I would have voted for 20ish games.

    My choices are:

Pacman emulator: Black Magic in our speccy.
Buzzsaw: Great game and incredible technical achievement.
Streets of Doom: Just my cup of tea. I love adventures.

There are some games that could easily have been chosen among those 3, say: Alter Ego, Cray 5, Retroinvaders, Choper Drop, Dingo, Horace, Wuderchars ... And others that I probably haven't played enough to get into them.

A big thank you to all the programmers. And now move yer arses 'cause 2012 has to be at least as good as 2011 in number & quality of games.

I did so and do not regret it at all, I really thought they were so good in my opinion I could not have felt any better had I left one out :)

I had to give out a lot of votes too, as there were loads of games I have enjoyed or am still enjoying playing this year....I did however only vote for stuff I played and enjoyed!

There's no way I could whittle it down to a top 3.....way too many good games...I'd explode or something trying to work it out!

I reckon for these polls you should just vote for all the games you want to, and there shouldn't be any restriction...you'll still get a pretty accurate representation of how well the games are doing....maybe not with this poll now, because a 3 game rule was suggested at the start, meaning that not everyone has voted for everything the could have...but in future it should remain open voting with no restriction on numbers.

And there's always the rating system (corrupt though it may be sometimes..)

By the way, to those who voted for "Another (missing one)", could you specify which game it is? (I was hoping I didnt miss any, but it seems I did??)

Yes, no problem. I voted for "Another One" based on the unreleased games out there yet. One such example are my very own PGD games which might be published this weekend or perhaps never at all.

I wonder if some people have preconceptions when the game has the memory limit in the title? I could imagine that stopping a few people playing it.

I was impressed with the program but must say I couldn't really get into it I'm afraid.

If I didn't stick to 3 votes the brilliant 4kTapnJoin would've got one from me tho :-).

True, I tried it for a bit some days ago, and its really addictive, although the levels were getting a bit crazy!

Dingo is in 4th place at time of writing.

To have a good hand in the making of the 4th best Spectrum game of 2011 is nothing short of astounding to me.

Thanks to all who voted for it.

It seems its going to be difficult that any game changes position, since most of the votes are already cast, but lets see how this finishes. It looks like Buzzsaw is officially best game of the last year, though :D

Took your tip and so played this yesterday using the WOS online emulator, through to the last level, (I think its the last level) but I think that it is beyond my powers! Left it overnight to be sure, but online chuntey meant it crashed.

Enjoyed it well enough until level 33 (a beast) and 34 (too hard for me).

Let me know if you get to the end, would like to know if there is an ending.

I have to admit Buzzsaw + was a great game but there were better games than buzzsaw in 2011.

I know Buzzsaw + had some cool effects and some really nice music and i am not knocking the efforts of the people involved but i am shocked so many people have voted for this game.

Just voted. Went for just one game, Alter Ego, as it stood out - original and playable and very Spectrum

    Honourable mentions:

Stela - very addictive and a great achievement making the best gameplay out of simple graphics/ movement.
Buzzsaw - The game itself is very playable - a surprise to me as I thought joefish might be too focussed on the tech achievement (which I'm sure is fantastic but leaves me cold as I've never had any issues with the Speccy's colours)
Chopper Drop - Shows why ACD is a great thing. Addictive
Frank N Stein Rebooted - the reboot is great and Colin's return to the Spectrum a fantastic thing for us all. I like the original too much though. Really hope Dracula emerges this year as an all-new game from Colin would take some beating
Dingo - Although my mini issue with Dingo is that the arcade game was forgotten for a reason. It is basically a paint game where you clear rather than paint the paths and shows off the ACG trait of graphics masking an overly simple game. The talents behind this conversion are better than the inspiration I think. Loading screen of the year from the few I've seen

Yes, Dingo is a pretty simple game, but I didn't want to something too complex for my first game. Hopefully I can find something a bit more...meaty for my next project. :)

Thank you for your comment about "the talent" - it's very nice and warms, and I'm sure Mark feels the same way. heart.gif

Not bad for a few hours messing around each night for about 2 weeks :D
