  • Redknapp cleared on same day and he's keen on the job.

    Coincidence?

Once again, the FA have proven themselves to be every bit as inept as the muppets who run FIFA. An absolute shambles.

well, fair play to him for taking a stand for the British justice system of being innocent until proved guilty.....Sadly, I'm not sure Terry is morally the best person to take a stand for though

Neil Warnock is said to be "delighted" - that's Neil (currently looking for a job) Warnock, hint, hint.

BTW, Neil Warnock is an anagram of Colin W**Ker. Say no more.

Should be Martin O'Neil hands down, one of the best man managers of our time, AND he was taught be Cloughie, the best England manager we never had

    nice.

Even if it wasn't, it should be. Hated him ever since he said we "cheated" our way to promotion.
  • Hate Warnock too. He's an idiot.

Glad Capello's gone. Don't want Redknapp though, he's no good without money to spend.

Anyone else think that 'arry will not fancy the England job?

I think he's a better manager than people think but it's not like he's managed to teach Lennon to cross yet....

As Spurs fan, this is the worst news possible. If England come knocking, Harry will go. Can't blame him really. But's he'll be on a hiding to nothing. The England job is a thankless one, with no prospects other than the fast track to becoming a television or radio pundit.

Aye but if the rumour mill is to be believed you'll get Jose in the Summer fresh from beating Barca to the La Liga title

    Jose = trophies

Quite gutted by this, Capello has an excellent record for England (Granted the last world cup wasnt the best !)

Presume its over the John Terry stuff, IF John Terry is found guilty then yeah get rid of him 100%, but i thought it was innocent until proven guilty, stripping him off his captaincy before the trial is a poor move, dont blame Capello for sticking with him.

Also resigning instead of forcing the FA to sack him was a good move as Capello obviously wouldnt have got any money if he resigned rather then getting sacked ?

But usual story of the FA screwing up, specially a few months before the Euros. He might be a 'stubborn twat' as Mel put it (i dont think fans are happy with any england managers) but he did well for England and we qualified easily for the Euros, best qualification in years and still fans arent happy.

no one should forget just how awful the team was in the World Cup....might actually be a result for Capello as he'll now always have that "ahh but he would have improved if he' hadn't been betrayed by the FA..." line now - might be trying to protect him rep a little.

I don't know anyone else who is gutted to see the back of Capello, gutted for the timing and the madness that follows England but not for Capello.

Be interesting to see how the players react....when Italian football was in crisis their national team went and won the World Cup (as I predicted at the time, thank you office betting  )

Given the timing, I doubt any manager will have a change to do anything with the tactics so perhaps letting someone like Pearce/O Neil/Venebals even FFS etc who are good motivators having a crack and just hoping that a "feel good" factor frees the players up from all the normal OTT expectation and they actually perform for once

If he left after the Euros (which he was going to anyway wasnt he ?) i could understand.

But the team were playing very well qualifying for the Euros, didnt come down to the last game for once, just think its suicidal to get rid of him now. To be fair the new manager will get a 'free pass' for a while as if they do badly at the Euros they'll say it wasnt his fault as he got the job late so its a win win there for the new manager.

Cant believe Spurs fans will be happy as surely its Rednapps job ?
  • Is it too much to ask for an England manager that picks players based on their current form rather than reputation.
Scott Parker's only just got into the team despite being the best player in England for the last 5 years.
Capello's no better than Sven or Mclaren- picking the same players, and when they play poorly picking them again and again! Rooney had 4 terrible games at the world cup. Why was he allowed to play 4 games in that form?!

Martin O'Neil would be my choice but can't see him leaving Sunderland after only a few games.

I really don't care, but I thought it was ridiculous that this is the lead story on BBC News 24 at the moment, and even the Prime Minister is interviewed for comment.

Is that fair though ? IF he picked them on reputation rather than current form then he did a good job as England cruised through qualification for the Euros so i think Capello did something right.

Rooney playing so bad in South Africa was a huge shock, but i could see why Capello stuck with him, he couldnt win, if he didnt and tried someone else England woudl have been just as bad and the media/fans would have shot him down for not playing Rooney in the final few vital games.

But the fans/media will do what they normally do, everyone will be backing Rednapp, all will love him, go forward 12 months and if England do badly at the Euros then it'll be the 'he has to go, hes crap, why didnt he pick xxxx' etc! Dont you just love armchair managers !

We had the best qualification for a euros tournament in years, things on paper 'were' looking good

Problem is we were looking good when we qualified for the 2010 WC more easily than I ever remember and then look at what happened!

I'm not saddened to see Capello go as he was disappearing after the Euro's anyway, but it's a shame he went the way he did because other than the WC he did a very, very good job.

As for Rooney being crap at the WC, people are quick to forget how awesomely destructive he was during qualifying (he was top scorer in Europe with 10) so he was always going to start. He had that bloody injury (again before a tournament) which hampered him and the whole squad just didn't have their heads screwed on properly.

As for Terry, well I hope the new manager simply doesn't pick him for the squad. Regardless of being proven innocent the bloke is just pure poison. His actions over the last few years have alienated at least 3 England internationals (Bridge, Ferdinand brothers) and I don't think it's been any coincidence that he's been found out as a top quality (and I mean truly world class, I don't deny he is a good defender) since Carvalho buggered off to Madrid.

Redknapp all the way for me!

John Terry is a walking car crash...
I wanna tell you a story 'bout a woman I know...
  • Ultimately it doesn't matter who gets the job because:

    a) The players care more about the champions league than playing for their country.

    b) The players aren't good enough.

    c) The players are too arrogant to realise they're not good enough.
  • edited February 2012
Agree about the money/champions league, but i do think we have a lot of very very talented players, more talented than in many past years. Problem is we dont seem to be able to find the best manager to be able to turn these multi millionaire playboys into a working team, its always individuals.

Capello had done very well in the qualifying stages but i wasnt expecting greatness at the Euros.

Rednapp could be great as hes taken Spurs who are a good side but not a 'Man City/Man Utd' team but they play very well as a team and thats why theyre 3rd in the league. Hope he gets the job 100%
  • Will Redknapp's dog Rosie be on the payroll? :D

We're not as good as Spain, Brazil, Germany etc. We can compete if the players realise this and the manager sets the team up to play to their strengths.

I think Capello's decision to quit shows him to be tactically astute. He's found a viable excuse to quit the job whilst his reputation is intact after qualifying well, with only the hard work bit of his long contract remaining. So he's had most of the money before the crucial make or break event, which he is predicting will be a 'break'. He does so at a point where a number of managers are about to get fired/move on so he can be available straight away. Spurs and Chelsea look like probable vacancies soon enough, just in England.

He has quit when there is a popular ready-made replacement in the wings getting rid of the flak of dropping England in it, whilst creating a top level club vacancy in the managerial merry-go-round, and avoided a future of 'Capello lost this tournament, if only we'd had Harry'.

If Capello was really confident that he had a team to win the European Championship would he have fought a bit harder for his innocent/guilty principles rather than letting one decision axe his chance of the fame and wealth of winning with England?
