Yeah, read this with shock a while ago. Mainly because I thought she'd be older than 48.

    RIP, Whitney.

Its easy to jump to conclusions when they are found dead in an hotel room after a party, have to admit though as nice as her voice was it was plain and lacked character so all i remember about her is `i wanna dance with somebody`,backing vocals for Chaka Khan `im every woman` and drugs-sorry

I wonder what she died of. I knew she had been a drug addict for years. It seems another artist dies of drink/drug abuse. History is full of them.
    A real shame.
    RIP Whitney:sad:

I would also believe that she was much older than 48, maybe over 60. She has been forever, since I remember.

Somehow I was always confusing her with Tina Turner. ;)

sad as it is (for anyone to go so early), I hope it doesn't mean her back catalogue will be released all over the place

nice voice but the songs weren't that good

  • I'll always remember her for that god awful song from that god awful movie.

    Rip Whitney.

48 is no age but I thought she was about 48 back in the eighties!

I think it's safe to say she led a troubled life, at least now she'll be at peace.

    RIP Whitney.

When she first became famous she was a church going little miss perfect.

She then met and married Bobby Brown and became a drink and drug addict and her career took a nosedive.

    Draw your own conclusions.

    What a damned waste.

    RIP Whitney

    RIP Whitney

I remember seeing her on something a couple of years back and being really shocked at how thin she had become...she then proceeded to attempt to sing, and although I've never been a fan of warbly-types like her or Mariah Carey, her singing was awful compared to what it used to be like...I thought then then it would only be a matter of time before news of her death would appear online, as it was clear she was wasted on something....

Be it drugs or not, her death proves yet again that fame isn't always all it's cracked up to be....

RIP Witney. Housewives favourite circa 1991-92. I remember I had a boss who's wife used to blare out 'I Will Always Love You', from her car with all the 'Electric' (these things were a marque of someone who could afford the luxury model in the early 90's) windows wound down.

My wife once worked as a nanny in the neighbourhood she lived in. Usher was also reported to live in the area too. MJ had a pad not far away too, but was rarely there.

Thing that makes me laugh is you know all those journo's that were outside that nightclub taking photos as her bodyguards carried her barely conscious blood stained body to her car, will print a story about "Whitneys tragic last night".

The thing that pisses me off about this blatant hypocrisy is if she'd survived the same people printing that bullsh*t would've titled the story something like "Haha! Crackhead".

Just like when Anna Nicole died she was suddenly "Americas Sweetheart", when the same people had been printing stories taking the piss out of her for years.

Anyway I'm no fan of Whitney Houston infact I bloody hate her music, but it is quite sad to watch the total collapse of someone who was way up there at one time. Apparently she was just in a film as well, it hasn't even been released yet AFAIK?

yeah the film Sparkle - a cautionary film about the bad effects drugs can have on a pop star from what I gather, a bit tragic-ironic there..

I may well listen to Hatfield And The North's Fitter Stokes Takes A Bath in her memory. I think Paul Gambacini said the best thing this morning on the BBC, when he pointed out that same people who would be queing up to pay their respects would be the exact same ones who took the piss for the last ten years.

I wasn't a fan of her music at all but it is a shame she has died. However, drug addicts die every day, why should this one suddenly be headline news? If she had keeled over in 1990 at the height of her fame I can see it, but not now. She's someone who was famous for used to being famous if that makes sense.

Oh I don't know, when corpses start to bloat up they make noises when the gas is expelled via the mouth, say by rhythmic pressing on the abdomen. Your dream may still come true!

excellent tune. the album title is kind of relevant now as well...

Whitney Houston had a voice that just didn't get the tunes it deserved. The massive hits she had in the 80s-early 90s (including seven number ones in a row in the US) were pretty hollow pop, even by the standards of the time. If she had linked up with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis for example, she could've been ace. Instead, she got pap such as "I Have Nothing" and mauled that Dolly Parton song. And just look at who she inspired: Mariah, Celine Dion, Aguilera... dear oh dear.

When people look back at Whitney Houston, they'll say "What a shame", but it'll be as much for what could have been in her career as for her untimely death. RIP.

Shame she's dead but the cynic in me thinks perhaps self inflicted given all the stuff rumour has it she was doing etc

While obviously sad to see someone pop their clogs I am now not looking forward to being force fed her bland and not at all to my taste music as everyone and their wife leaps on the faux grief wagon by pumping her tunes out 24/7

    RIP Whitney.

While I'm not a fan I wouldn't turn off the tv or radio if they played her early stuff, some of that wasn't bad, but my god that Bodyguard song was just bloody annoying. I bet that goes to number one next week.

That'll be me switching my alarm from radio to buzzer for the next 5 months
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

    R.I.P. Whitney.
I also wasn't a fan of a lot of her stuff - but she did have a good voice. Whitney samples appear in early Jungle tunes - so I kinda have an affinity to her.
