Star Wars ...pink?
Has anyone here got the Blu-ray box set of Star Wars or seen the 3D Ep1 version?
What the heck have they done with the colour?
It looks like some 1930s experiment in Technicolor or something. In some scenes, there's a definite shade of pink going on, it just looks over saturated. It's the same on the cinematic 3D version.
Anyone?
Toby.

for a list of most or all of the changes from the cinema/VHS/special edition VHS/DVD/Blu-ray versions of the original trilogy, including the pinkish effect. Warning: If you're still on dial-up (is anyone?) then don't load that page, as it's extremely screenshot heavy.
The same person/people even detail the changes in the cinema/DVD/Blur-ray versions of the prequel trilogy but who cares? Unless they replaced the three films with films written by people who understood what made the original films great (stong, interesting characters (even if they were stereotypes, so what?), an epic story of good versus evil, memorable scenes, no tedious politics or even more tedious romance, actual scenery and detail that 'felt' like the original trilogy and not a cross between Buck Rogers and Blade Runner, etc) then I for one don't care. And unless you can find someone who agrees with Lucas that Solo shot first, then I doubt you'll find anyone who cares about the prequel films.
I'm not even a big Star Wars fan (like most sci-fi fans, I do like SW, but not hugely so), but even I'm disgusted at the changes Lucas has made to the classic three, so it's no wonder the real, hardcore fans all curse his name.
They are definitely much more enjoyable to watch without the CGI BS that Lucas splattered all over them.
Because its much more fun whinging about the changes in the film non stop ! ;) (Having the same argument over at RG !)
I'm a huge Star Wars fan but i'm not upset by any of the changes, the 'real hardcore fans' are the ones which annoy Lucas a great deal, so much so hes fed up of the criticism and said he wont make another film again as hes fed up with the abuse he gets as he recently said in an interview.
Its a film ! Just enjoy it, if you dont enjoy it watch something else. Theyre his films, if he wants to change it as the tecnology wasnt around back in the 70's then fine. Its crazy how obsessed fans seem to think 'its ours, dont you dare change it!!!'. Weird ! If you like the originals watch the originals.
I've had a look on a few Star wars forums and these hardcore Star Wars fanatics really ruin it, you think bickering on WOS is bad, you wait till you see two hardcore star wars fans whinge about a character who is in one of the films for a few seconds, they go off on a rant about it. Crazy !
Think sometimes the worlds better off without the internet, in the old days you would say to your mate 'new star wars films arent bad are they ?' and he would say 'nah its alright'.
Now theres armies of haters with websites full of inaccuracies about the films and huge long essays about why Lucas has ruined their childhood and ruined the world etc !
Again if you dont like it, dont watch it, dont like the new version, then keep with the old one.
If you could actually buy the old version on DVD, it wouldn't be an issue.
If you could then the 'look george is trying to milk us for more money' brigade will start !
I thought they had already done that ? Looking at my dvds on my shelf i've got some silver lined dvds which are the new fancy versions, then a gold looking one which has 'limited time only: includes the digitally remastered movie plus the original theatrical version' ?
I've looked at the old crappy version on the disc before and it seems a copy of the original VHS one with no new special effects etc ? Yeah says on the back original threatrical 1977 version
Yeah this is the one...

Looking at one of the reviews...
"A few reviewers have mentioned that this isn't the original theatrical version, despite what it says in the tin. It's true. The film on the second disc seems to be the same as the THX digitally remastered version that was released on VHS in, I think, the mid-late 90's.
There don't seem to be many differences between this one and the original 1977 effort - a couple of tiny alterations of the 'blink and you'll miss it' variety, but the sound & picture quality are certainly improved."
But seems 'practically' the original versions
aren't these them?

All I see now is the originals bundled with the remastered and none of the extras. So much for limited edition years ago!
Someone managed to convert the original Laserdisc versions to DVD and put them online so if you want to see them they're out there waiting to be grabbed.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

Lucas made the best effort he could at the time he made it. Even by the time Empire came out the technology was that much better. He wanted to produce an amazing sci-fi epic and that's what he's eventually achieved.
So called "hard core fans" are basically just irritating nerds who will never be satisfied. If you want to watch the original then watch a crappy low quality print. It makes no difference cause the original was so ropey in the first place! Lucas isn't going to spend vast amounts of time and money restoring all the film of crappy models and special effects just for a handful of borderline nutcases. Get over yourself.
As for ewgf's "written by people who understood what made the original films great"... You want to know what made the original films great?
Really? Cause you won't like it.
I'll get flamed here but the answer is simple - nostalgia. To make you like the new trilogy there's only one solution, send them back in time and show them to you in the 70s.
in 40 years, there will be militant fans arguing that fact that jar jar binks was removed from the episode 1 super dupa special edition. :-P
True.
Best post in the thread thus far :D
