Billy Connolly
I saw Billy Connolly in Southend last night and have to say he was excellent.
I was a bit worried because I'd heard some bad reports of some of his shows and when he came on stage with a sheet of paper I feared the worst.
But aside from a few old jokes he was on top form. Has anyone else caught his show this tour?

If you're famous and named in a 'chit chat' thread subject title it usually means you've popped your clogs.
Good to hear he's still on form (and alive ).
Yeah, I was actually at the first show that he walked off on! To be fair to him, alot of what happened has been missreported. He did walk off, but let me tell you the whole story....
First of all, there were alot of people walking around, some going to the bog, some for a fag and some to the bar for beer. The first two to leave went to the bar. He did his "I love to go a-wandering" bit when they came back and he called the m "fat" (they were) for going to the bar. Someone then shouted something to him. He fired back with a decent return, then said that he find hecklers boring and spoiling everyones fun. Then, as he does, he changed his story (about the sat nav) and went into some of his favorite heckles. Including this one...
He talked about his early days and starting out playing folk music in Universities and how he hated them because he got heckled all the time and everyone was always pissed. So he said to his agent that he didn't want to do anymore as he'd "paid his dues". A few months later he got a call from his agent saying that a uni wanted to book him and were offering him ?100 (he said his usual fee was ?75) and that all he needed to do was to "turn up". So, he did. he walked out onstage, got to the mic and someone shouted "get off!" So he did. he never said a word, just walked off. That's an important story.
He also told about a few other heckles, including one about a guy who kept asking for a song called "needle of death".
Now, back to the Scarborough show. Some drunk guy thought it would be fun to shout out "needle of death" at Billy at random points. t actually worked the first time and even Billy laughed at that one and gave the guy a thumbs up "excelent" he said. But, on th 8th or 9th time it was called out, Billy was obviously pissed off with it.
He did his 2 hours, then said he was "going to leave (us) with one last story" when the drunk guy called out "get off" (see earlier story), so Billy said "infact, I think I;m done. Thanks for coming, Goodnight" and walked off.
It wasn't quite the storming off that was made out in the press. Infact, I also went the night after (Sunday) and he actually did longer on the Saturday than the Sunday (1hr40 on Sunday) mainly because he didn't go "off tangent" as much as he did on Saturday night.
He was on good form though. Not as good as the first time I saw him, but not bad enough to put me off going again. He's promised to come back on his next tour too as both nights sold out within hours of tickets going on sale.
Last night he went off on so many tangents, it took him the whole night to tell his first story!
I think the market for chefs and comedians is over saturated TBH
In fact here's a list of all the comedians I like from the last 10-15 years:
And that's the end of the list.
*READ: I too like the invisible man.
so i turned round with my best 'look' you know the one you give to people who are standing too close at the cahs machine. and the guy was simple. i mean he looked it and everything. he was about 20 and with 2 birds the same age, so i gave them the stare for brining him to the show. i know they should come out and that but he kept mumbling all the way through, i dont think he understood where he was. no one near him could really say anything cos of his disability, but you know, maybe get the dvd for him or something.
