Name the fil-um

edited February 2012 in Chit chat
I don't hold much hope for this, as I can't even remember the story, just images.

Okay, here we go.

It's.... a horror film, sort of. Maybe family-friendly?

It's in an old spooky house.

There's an attic. Reminds me of Amitiville: The evil escapes.

It's about a door. What's behind the door?

There's a girl in it. Is she back home?

And to give away the ending... Oh my gosh, the parents are aliens / dopplegangers.

Please, I want to see this film again. Must be from 1999-2007

Is this the one where the "parents" are "stuck" in the house, i.e. they can't leave it because there is a curse/interdimensional security gate/otherwise lock engaged?

Can't remember the name of it though, sorry :-(

From that description it sounds like the dates should be more like between 1979-1987 :D

Does the door end up with a bleeding slice across it at any point?
    Every night is curry night!

My best guess would be Skeleton Key, from 2005?

Nope, much more recent. Don't think so.

there was some film in the 70s where this family was stuck in a house and when they opened the door it looked like they were encased in metal. at one point green goo came down the chimney.

you kinda watched it just to see what happened at the end, and it was possibly the most stupid ending ever.

Good job that old films don't have endings like old games.

"Congraturation, you have seen the end of film. Well done."

they just loop back to the start only, playing slightly faster.

That would be a hammer house film called Childs Play. I remember watching it when I was a nipper and it's one of those films that I keep remembering every now and again. Like you say though the ending was stupid but I remember the film gave me nightmares when I was young but looking at it now (on youtube) it really is quite silly.

yeah that was it, it could have been a 'tales of the unexpected'

or one of those creepshow segments.

Amityville 3 has a pretty stupid ending. It's a crumby film, but worth a watch for cheap laughs.

All the Amityville's are crumby except the first one. That's only slightly crumby :p
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

Amityville Dollshouse is rather fab for a cheapy. Oh, and I love the idea of the lamp in number 4/5, but the film dragged quite a bit.

But there was a bit in that which I found really freaky, where the camera scans an old photo, to reveal a demon face thingy. Eek! Okay, it probably looks crap now though!

    that tv show?

im sure there have been a few films that kinda loop back to the start, like the characters are trapped in a vicious circle. there certainly have been plenty where the horror plot has implied that the events will all happen again to another set of victims.

I've sat through all NINE Amityville movies and I think the best by far is the second one. Pretty creepy, with adult themes, and all the expected horror cliches: blood coming out the taps, beds spinning around, doors slamming etc. Some nice gory effects work too, at the end.

It was downhill from there. Part 3 was rated PG (in the States, it was a '15' in the UK), and after that they were all TV/DVD movies. The worst one was The Amityville Curse (the fifth one). I swear, nothing AT ALL happens in the entire movie.

Bermuda-Triangle based time-looping horror movie I have a thing for. Disshelved bint has a bit of a breakdown trapped on a spooky ship as her friends get bumped off over and over again. Quite good - worth getting a bargain DVD or watching out for on the free film channels. Don't look for trailers on-line as the US ones as usual spoil all the better bits.

Ignore all the tossers who say it's derivative of Timecrimes (Los Cronocr?menes). It is a bit, but then that's European barking-mad home-made farce filmmaking rather than a well-paced horror movie. Plus it's not afraid to wander on and off the strict interpretations of time-travel to slightly unsettling effect.

After that experience, why did you actually watch films 6, 7, 8 and 9?

Because there's always a small chance you might stumble upon a gem. Didn't happen in this case (although IIRC the seventh one - A New Generation - was quite good).

    A good case in point:

    Howling - Classic
Howling 2 - So bad it's good
Howling 3 - Just bad
    Howling 4 - Silly :-(
    Howling 5 - Dull
    Howling 6 - Surprisingly decent :-o
    Howling 7 - Awful

Yep, Howling 6, the Freaks is a pretty decent film. I was... pleasently confused about that!

It's a cool film, though you end up needing to watch it again because it only even starts to make sense a second time. And I'm still not entirely convinced that it does then either.

i think it doesn't make sense at all.
