I've recently discovered this, a pre-Jamiroquai, Jay Kay solo track from 1989. Had it on loop for the last 30-40 minutes or so, perfect soundtrack to a sunny Sunday afternoon!

I think that is Action Battlefield? I think it's from 81', but not sure, that seemed more like straight dub to me though, but with female singers, and a little psychadelic in places? But it's been about 18 years since I've heard it?

Van Halen - A Different Kind Of Truth.

This is much better than I thought it would be. Such a shame Roth sounds so out of key in the live shows they're currently doing.

Great album, probably one of the best comeback albums I've ever heard. Apparently they're all getting tighter as the tour progresses, hopefully they'll be nicely warmed up for the O2 in London (assuming that's where they'll play when they're down this way).

Aye, I've got half a dozen shows from the US tour and tbh Roth sounds shocking, too much playing to the crowd and not enough concentration on the vocals. He has never had the best voice but it currently sounds like it's shot to pieces live.
Hopefully someone will tell him and get him to sort it out before they gets to these shores..

I've heard they're throwing a few lesser-known tracks into their sets (i.e. not just hits)? Girl Gone Bad has been played, or so I've heard. If they play that when/if I see them, I may wee meself!
  • Still listening to a load of Beefheart as I'm getting in the mood to see The Magic Band in York in a couple of weeks.

A bit of Mirrorman and Trout Mask while doing the washing up today. Just remembering how awesome Moonlight on Vermont is!

I love all of their stuff (Omars solo stuff, De Facto, At The Drive-In, Vato Negro), but I must admit The Mars Volta is probably my fave of their projects. Frances The Mute is a genuinely amazing album, totally blew me away when I first heard it...
