Good new(ish) C64 and CPC games?

edited March 2012 in Chit chat
Like maybe most of us at WOS, I keep more or less up to date with new Spectrum releases, but I don't follow other 8 bit machines' new software, so I'm not aware of any good releases, even though I do have a decent collection of older games for those machines.

Anyway, I want to update my games collections for the C64 and CPC (the only other 8 bit machines I ever emulate), so I was wondering what games made in the past ten or fifteen years or so for the C64 or CPC are worth playing? What are the names of the C64 game where the only control is the jump key, and also wasn't there a C64 platform game released a couple of years back that was supposedly the best game of it's type ever seen on the C64?

Download links would be great too, of course, but failing that just the names of the game would be fine. Games of any types for these two machines, as long as they are new (as in the post-shop years) and at least fairly good.

Also, other games for other 8 bits might be interesting too, so please list those if you think they are worth looking into.

Thanks for any answers.

Edit: Actually, if someone who has a load of the new games wants to zip them up and make them available for easy download (the games that are free, I mean, not any non-free new games) then please do, as that would be really great.

On the CPC you should definitely check out:

BB4CPC - a rewrite of Bubble Bobble to do a much better job
R-Type 128K - another rewrite, based on the Speccy source, which does a fantastic job of showing what the CPC can do
Orion Prime - Graphical horror adventure, brilliantly atmospheric and a huge game

If you're using a Plus compatible emulator or hardware, then you also need to check out:

Rick Dangerous 128+ - the CPC original with prettied up graphics, sampled speech and the full 16-bit levels restored. Absolutely brilliant (as a Darling would say)
Frogger (available from the WinAPE site) - pretty much an arcade accurate conversion of the original

the jump run game , the last BIG release on the c64 was Mayhem in Monsterland by the talented Rowland Bros. You can also buy it on the Wii, but because of the specialist coding for the scrolling , it's not 100% like 64 I read somewhere.

I'm sure it would have got a gold medal if it had been reviewed in zzap, as it used trickery to do the scrolling that had never been used in a game before at that time (tmr will correct me if thats wrong haha).

it's good to look at , playable, and like all John / Steve Rowland games the presentation is spot on.. (can you tell I like their work ? )

Sub Hunter for both the Commodore 64 and Amstrad CPC is a great recent title that really shows what 8-bit computers were capable of if you pushed them a bit. The CPC version is especially impressive because it manages the nippy gameplay and fast parallax scrolling despite the lack of dedicated hardware.

sub hunter , has too much going on onscreen, it makes it tougher to play because of it on c64 , I feel. sure the parallax looks nice for screenshots , but well for playing it's too bright.

presentation is nice, but because they overdid it a bit ingame I feel it actually suffers for it.. e.g. the could have uses parallax BUT mono sets of colours so your focus is on the characters not the background.
