Voyage into the Unkown

edited March 2012 in Games
Has anyone ever figured out what to do in this game? (apart from not load it or throw it away!) Hacked the game to see whats inside, maybe a hint or two, anything?

  • Never played it and never going to.
I've got a huge list of games that I haven't a clue how to play.
I'm not adding another one to the list!

It got one of the worst scores ever in CRASH!. I don't think I'll bother...

I'll just watch the Rzx of you completing it! :-)

This game must hold the record as being the Spectrum game with the most accurate title. You can try plugging away for hours at it, and you will still have absolutely no idea what you are supposed to be doing :)

Get the crystal, kill the androids, blow up the deathstar.

    Sounds simple.

It's an awful, awful game. Thankfully back in the day I swapped my copy with a friend for Jet Set Willy II (I feel I got the better deal!).

However breaking into it is very easy and it's a BASIC game, so I reckon it shouldn't be too difficult to rip it to pieces and discover what to do. First impressions are it's really badly written BASIC too. Erk!

My voyage into the inexplicably bad continues....

Well, I've started the engines and Time-Warped here and there... and been mysteriously blown to smithereens by a strange smithereen-blowing mystery.

Odd game, 'praps the sort that tries to make you think there's more going on in it than there actually is.

To get into the game proper you need to press E P I C (bit of an overoptimistic key sequence).

From then on 5,6,7,8 move your ship around the 'map' unless an enemy ship appears, in which case 5,6,7,8 aim your gun and 0 fires. Moving into the wrong bit of map kills you instantly, failing to shoot an enemy quick enough kills you, teleporting onto the wrong planet kills you.

I think you need to go to the planet Quadrathon first, then press T to teleport to the surface. At this point K and L move the red thing left/right and W is pick up. 5,6,7,8 move you around the planet. The white thing you can pick up is presumably the diamond you're supposed to recover. T then teleports you back into space.

Now just need to figure out the route to the death star....

This is astonishing. Tomorrow, I'm going to download it, list it out and reverse-engineer it to find out what you're meant to do.

And then I'm going to do a remake for Android.

I wouldn't recommend it, I'm not sure what is more spaghetti like: the code or the map! There's little bits of m/code here and there too for things like the on-planet bits (they aren't more exciting than they sound!)

Probably about halfway through mapping it now. Found a weird bit where you get crashlanded by some sort of tractor beam, but there doesn't seem to be much you can do there. Still have yet to find my way back to the death star, figure that's in the second half of the code!

I remember on one occasion while playing that 'game' I managed to land on a planet and the grappling hook appeared. I think I died soon after.

A truly awful game. I didn't realise there is some machine code in it though.

    Keep at it Andy!

I had a brief poke around the code the other day and found two endings; one for when you run out of fuel and one for when your ship is destroyed. There didn't seem to be any sort of ending for when you'd completed the game, so I'm wondering if it was actually finished.

I'm working on the principle (or maybe just blind hope) that the ending is in one of the occasional M/C segments.

WOW! You probably know more than the guy that wrote the game!!
