ANN: SpudACE v0.008

edited March 2012 in Emulators
Though not strictly a ZX Spectrum emulator (but definitely ZX Spectrum related) I ashamedly announce the release of SpudACE v0.008, my Jupiter Ace emulator.

You can find it here.

Information and software (along with far inferior emulators) for the Jupiter Ace can be found at http://www.jupiter-ace.co.uk/index.html.

It's run by Steve Parry-Thomas (spt) whom many of you here know and is well worth a visit.

May the FORTH be with you!!!!

Thanks for that!... Its not often that we hear of the Jupitar Ace these days... and its been years since I tinkered with forth (there's some very good versions for the Speccy, and even an emulator with forth compiler built in somewhere out there, although I forget what its called now)... Great to see this little platform still getting some support....

Incidently, out of curiousity, did anyone ever try creating an alternative ZX spectrum ROM with FORTH instead of BASIC, or ever try running the Jupitar ACE roms through a spectrum?... Iv seen a few FORTH versions out there for the speccy, but often wondered how different things might have been if FORTH had been available on startup, within the rom itself... I recall seeing a 129kSE rom knocking around somewhere with BBC BASIC and SEBasic and wondered how hard it might be to compile a version of FORTH in there... Anyone ever considered that as a possible project?...

Here is a ROM that runs in your Interface 2 or download it to replace the main ROM in your Spectrum or Spectrum emulator.

Great to see karingal's emulator though. I have a soft spot for the Jupiter Ace as has this guy.

His Dad worked with the Pilot Ace which appeared in the Daily Mirror in 1952

It also used decimal floating point.

Yeah, Simon Owen informed me of that. I have absolutely no idea why or how to rectify it.

Yes, it was suggested to me to have "ACE" in capital letters as a nod to Vickers Dad and his work with the Pilot ACE.

I thought it was a mighty fine idea...

..oh wow!... I never knew of your work on that (is that your work??)!!!... Thats exactly the kind of thing I envisaged!!!!... Im at work now, but even so, couldn't resist the temptation to try out the .tzx at least... THANK YOU so much for pointing this one out - I didn't even know it existed!... Its pretty clear even from reading the website that a lot of work obviously went into this!... Thanks again!

Yes I should have mentioned it was all Paul Farrow's work. He has done his own disassembly of important routines and I recently pointed out the ROM properly in another thread.

You will find the manuals online on the site in karingal's original post.

I am saddened but not surprised that karingal did not credit me for my FORTH joke.
