Used to love the Addams Family, used to play it in a pub in Peterborough. others that spring to mind [ that i seemed to play a lot]:-

Big Guns and I Robot were in the Union Bar at Poly,
Space Invader at the local WMC.
    Black Knight various Arcades

Addams Family is a bit perculiar. It is the most produced pin ever (20,000 + were made) and yet it still commands very high prices. A beat up one can easily set you back ?1750. It just seems to be the one that people want to own.

Twilight zone of of my favourites. My favourite of all time is a Dr Who one, not because I'm a huge DR Who fan, but because of its functionality. I remember it having a 3 tier mulifunction pop up

Twilight Zone is voted as the best pinball ever on the Internet Pinball Database.

I'd love a real pinball machine, sadly no space for one, maybe when the kids move out :)

Genesis had to be my favorite, closely followed by Addams Family & Party Animal

I believe Genesis is quite a sought after game.

xp50, you seem to be quite knowledgeable about pinball machines.
What's your opinion on Attack from Mars and Medieval Madness? They play quite similarly. Loved them back in the mid 90s, great humour.

While we're talking about this topic, I might as well mention an evil deed related to pinball.

When I was doing my military service, there was a table called The Bally Game Show. Since we only received a lousy amount of money each month, I was annoyed if I didn't get my money's worth out of the machine, especially as the ball tended to run out at the side a lot.

One night (the owner had already closed down half the place for the night, however the pinball and arcade machines were still accessible) I got pissed off at this again, so I used my all-purpose swiss army-type knife to drill a hole into the wood casing at the position where the ball would run out at the left side. Then, whenever I played I'd use a screw driver and push it through the hole - any ball that would normally have been lost on the left side was blocked by the screwdriver so I could just lever it back into play.

A couple of days later, there was a plastic french fry fork firmly lodged in that spot. Some idiot had pushed it in so far that it was completely stuck and any ball that landed on it got stuck, too - the only way to get the ball out of there was to lift up the table, resulting in a tilt. Obviously this rendered the machine useless.

Fortunately some more days later, the machine owner had removed the fork and fixed the hole

Attack From Mars and Medieval Madness are both 'A' list games. MM is comfortably the most expensive game going.
Both great games with fabulous sound and humour.

That poor Gameshow ! What would Keith McTeeth have thought of you drilling into his cabinet ?:-P

maybe they are more likely to have played it as it was so mass produced, and it's a fun playable machine where free replays and high scores are achievable to the average player

so people who want to buy their own pinball, would naturally want that one?

    Once, at a show.
It was turned up REALLY loud so you could appreciate those glorious Defender sound effects.

    More than likely.

It certainly catches the eye of the casual player. The toys on it too are also quite eyecatching, Thing picking the ball up and the Power magnets to name but two.

On the addams family pinball they used to have in our loacal arcade the tilt wasn't very sensetive. I used to play it with one foot either side of the front legs, and when I finished I would have to move the machine back to where it was.

I probably played Party Animal the most, as it was only 10p a go, and addams family was 20p.

I can't remember the name of the one with the knackered coin mech, put 2p in and it thought it was a 10p.

I've never played a Party Animal.

It would have been cheaper because it was an older System 11 game where as Addams Family was WPC (newer design with the big dot matrix display).

Only 2,250 made, I'd be lucky if I ever saw one again. As far as I know there was only 1 here on the island.
  • My grandad had a bagatelle very much like this one and I used to play it when I went round to see him and my granny.

I've never really had a go on proper pinball machines but I imagine they're pretty cool to collect if you've got the space.

As well as TurboGrafx/PC Engine reviews spida1a's YouTube channel has a quite a few pinball machine vids too. He's quite a serious collector and has some interesting vids.

    That is one nice bagatelle.

I have my pinballs in the garage which has been sealed and carpeted.

I do remember playing the Rocky Pinball table, and I know I've played others when I was younger, but I forget the themes?

    She does have a sister.

The wife isn't as forgiving as you might think. She wouldn't let me swap our double bed for bunk beds so that I could get one more machine.

I may just trade her in for one that doesn't think owning 7 pinballs, 6 guitars and 5 synthesisers is selfish. ;)

Never even seen a Rocky before. The older games look better than they play in my opinion. It wasn't until the early ninety eighties that the rules started to get a little more complex (which is what I like).

What's really hilarious is I'm sure when you'd get the ball stuck up near the top of the table and the bonuses were flying up bigtime the machine would actually go "AAAAIIIDDRRREEEEEEEEAAAAANNNN!!!!!!!!"

As well as PinMAME there's also Future Pinball, which divides the virtual pinball guys in two. Some hate it for its less than perfect physics engine, others because it doesn't have ROM emulation.

On the other hand though it does have some great original table designs like Road Girls Revisited which has a great tongue in cheek Dukes of Hazzardesque theme, and 3 Angels which is gothic horror.
