UK Postal Rates
Following the announcement of the new UK postal rates from 30th April, I have done a quick calculation based on keyboard membranes, our most popular item.
For example, a packet (eg a large keyboard membrane) sent within the UK will see an increase in the postal cost from ?1.96 to ?2.70.
Sending the same packet to Europe, the price increases from ?1.49 to ?3.39 and to the rest of the World, from ?2.07 to ?5.10. :o
I can only therefore recommend that people consider if they want to order items before the prices increase !!
Our lowest membrane prices will remain on www.sellmyretro.com

From Royal mail website I get this:
Based on 100g packet:
Price now to Europe = ?1.49 after ?2.70
Price now to World zones 1&2 = ?2.07 after ?3.30

Or is there that much difference between personal and business services?
What the hell....that's a ridiculous jump..don't guess I'll be shipping much from blighty or off Ebay UK anymore :(
I guess that means shipping a speccy goes from 15 quid to 35!
Sending an A3 cardboard envelope with a Spectrum+ membrane in it weighs 170g according to one I sent today - so actually the prices are
Price now to Europe ?1.49 - after ?3.16
Price now to World Zone 1 ?3.20, after ?4.42
Price now to World Zone 2 ?3.20, after ?4.50
Some of the membranes are slightly heavier..
These are the personal rates - I can't justify a franking machine (even if I had room in the house for one!)

what about clean mail or things like that, i really dont know much about stuff like that, i seem to remember royal mail giving discounts if you had properly designated labels their machines could read. kinda like the envelopes junk mail comes in.
Price to europe for 161-180g small packet is ?2.11 now.
Rich knows his stuff.
:-)
when you post so much you get to be a bit of a "postage geek" , but they were very tight lipped at the post office about it.. I knew it was gonna be some barmy increase IF they are keeping so quiet.
last time they went from 51p to 58p .. worked out I saved ?90-ish on stamps by buying in bulk pre the increase.
I just looked.. I post a lot of 2nd LL stuff, so looking at
pre > after
58p > 69p
92p > ?1.10
?1.23 > ?1.40
?1.76 > ?1.90
I still think they should have held back a bit , last time it was from 51p to 58p .. so why not the same again IF anything
RWAP , I just picked up a QL today off someone who bought a membrane off ya very recent;y, he was surprised I knew of ya hehe.
because then next year the jump would have to be even bigger... :-P
you know ya self about the massive gap between post office / couriers cost wise.. laughable.
I always encourage people to bulk buy with my ebay stuff , yet people don't get it.. as i charge by weight / not item.
some of the people selling stamps, might have been well "issues" with them.. e.g. they were used once.
Yes but pensioners still think they can buy a return bus ticket to town for 58p and have change left for a pint :p
If Royal mail can't make a profit by charging what they do now for a stamp, then it's not worth while anyone even trying to compete for letter delivery. But when Royal mail prices are high enough to make a decent profit, then others will compete hopefully.
I don't think people really think just how much it costs the royal mail to deliver your letter.
When everyone was sending letters it was okay but driving a van to pick up one letter from a post box uses the same amount of diesel as picking up fifty letters... When fifty people were sending a letter that shared out the cost but when it's only one pensioner sending a letter they have to find the wages for the postman and the cost of his diesel for a measly 58p...
:-)
Fair point, Royal mail will be left just delivering letters then, and lose out on all the small packets, and what they have left of the parcel market.
I see Myhermes is offering upto 1kg deliveries for ?2.75 so anything above 750g is not worth using royal mail.
*fixed* hehe
but when the post office lot do the rounds very early in the morning (drop offs) they are also checking the mail boxes a lot of the time. I'd use post boxes all the time *IF* I could be 100% sure all ebayers didn't say "oh it got lost". It's rare it happens, but enough for me to queue up now. They come out with something to resolve that, then yer I'd use post boxes more.
I doubt it will have any change on couriers as their market is really competitive.
I'm lucky cause the post office here is still open but a lot of people don't have that option. The choice is use to use a post box or go off to town.
