Dizzy - A Change of Opinion

edited March 2012 in Games
All my friends (and most members) on here know how much of a Dizzy fan I am - I've enjoyed the games, even spending many an hour playing the Megadrive game...

But within the last week, I've been playing Crystal Kingdom Dizzy, which I missed first time round.. and I felt really let down.

Why did Codemasters get new programmers into code it? Why couldn't Big Red have coded it?

I've played all the official Dizzy games on the Speccy and CPC and felt Crystal Kingdom Dizzy ruined the series..

Can I pretend it doesn't exist and continue to enjoy the rest of the games?

It's just the graphics that bring it down ;)

    Weirdo! :-P

    Why 'weirdo'?

I also liked all the Dizzy arcade games (bar Down the Rapids)..

I've never played the NES games though..

CKD's graphics were alright (on the Speccy that is, the CPC's were crap).

I never really liked Fantastic Dizzy, I tried to and almost enjoyed it for a while, but then I realised how crap it really was. It's like it tried to throw familiar characters all at once at you right away, and it kind of just made it cheap and cheesy.

    Crystal Kingdom Dizzy is arse.

The ones I really didn't like were the Amiga versions though, sure Treasure Island Dizzy may have had extrs locations and those interesting cheat codes (especially EGGZ CAN FLY), but they just seemed wrong. Didn't like the Commode versions either they just seemed wrong as well, apart from Bubble Dizzy which was unbearably arse on the Speccy, but for some reason quite enjoyable on the Commode.

But you lot already know my opinion on the Dizzy games, anything after Magicland is crap.

    CRAP CRAP CRAP!!! :D

    That's what I do.

I've got the original big box version only because I got it for nothing. I think it's the worst game I've played on the Speccy.
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

you need to seek out the 2009 edition, the retail version were a downgrading of the C64 version that were created so the map could be built on the speccy first;)

Ooh, I thought it was just the Loading Screen$ that had changed. Seek I shall! :)
  • Dizzy seems to be one of those marmite games. However, I'm not really that fussed either way. I don't love it or hate it. It's just ok. Funnily enough, that's exactly how I feel about marmite too.

CKD garners a lot of hate from Dizzy fans, all the more so since it was the only Dizzy game released at full price (on the Spectrum anyway) - ?9.99 for a game which, in the view of everyone whose opinion I've heard or read, is very inferior to it's budget priced prequels.

Why did Codemasters release the game at full price, anyway? I mean apart from the obvious motive of greed, was there every any explanation offered for the price hike? And did Codemasters release any more games at full price? I know they released compilations at full price, but that's fair enough (well, as long as the games were good).

purely down to them wanting to move away from being a budget label, I think they felt that it had had it's day and wanting to concentrate on the console market

I like Dizzy, but always felt that Vic Reeves butchered the song when he covered it.

I cant stand Dizzy I remember buying one after another of the games for some reason and every one i hated then for some strange reason I bought the big box.

I think a lot of people did this back in the day even though the games were utter cack.

No idea why Codemasters released it full price.. they also released it at full price on the CPC..

Wasn't Rockstar originally released at full price on the Codemasters Gold label?

I loved Dizzy games since Treasure Island Dizzy - I had played the original but it wasn't until TID that I became a fan.
