Action figures with flying disc thingie
It's another trip down memory lane to try and remember something I played with as a kiddie.
It was a bunch of action figures. It must have been mid-late 80s when I got them as a chrimbo pressie. I don't think they were that well known. There weren't that many different figures (I think I only had 2 or 3) and they were pretty large, about the size of He-Man figures. I can't really remember what they looked like other than they may have looked like aliens/lizards and I think they wore black armour.
Anyway, the thing I remember is that they had vehicles (tanks/jeeps maybe?) that fired plastic discs (the disc may have been black and white?). These were fairly large discs, maybe slightly smaller than a Pringles lid :p I don't think these were part of a structured game but the disc firing mechanism was pretty cool and fired quite a few one after another a fair distance. I think it may have been air-powered?
As far as I know there wasn't any kind of cartoon connected with them and I don't think I had friends that had them so they could have been cheap knock-offs that my dad bought from a dodgy mate ;)
Sorry this is all so vague, but I've been racking my brains for a few years on this and googling hasn't got me very far.
So, any ideas what these things were? I'll try and remember some more details.
Help!!!

but are you sure it wasn't from this colection? Some of the enemies of this toyline looked like aliens (the bad guys) and they where really big when compared to other toys

I also remember Brave Starr toyline having some flying disks...
That was the first link I found and I had a quick look on there last night but no joy yet. There's some real weird stuff on there
Isn't that from Krang from Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles? Nope not that stuff. It wasn't Bravestarr either. Not as well known as that and not a cartoon as far as I know.
I've had a chat with a guy from work and he seems to remember what I'm talking about but not much more in the way of details.
The disc firer had a kind of tube to hold the discs and they fired horizontally.
I don't think it was from Argos and it's maybe a bit niche. Hopefully someone will be able to point me in the right direction...

I had a few of these, they were a bit naff tbh, I remember a few of them had lighter flints in their chests, and a strike on their backs so you could make them do sparks for some bizarre reason? :D
:p Those are pretty naff, but I've seen MUCH worse on my recent searches. I think these were created by Nick O'Teen to encourage young smokers.
I think the figures I'm thinking of were less colourful and black with maybe purple and green. Maybe...
Insectors?
I had a few of these as well, and funnily enough they were also a bit naff :D
i had those too, a quid fifty from the market. :-P
I've still got the wasp one! I know where he is too (he's upstairs) and the original flint still works :D
I also remember those disc flying thingys. No idea what they were called though and I don't even remember if I had one (or my brothers for that matter). Infact, I'd totally forgotten about them until I saw this thread :D
the paul daniels worrier.
My cousin had tons of those!
including huge bug flying machine things which you wore like a glove...the fingers being the legs
when i asked my parents for an air pistol, he said no, but secretly i think he was pround and a few days later gave me a clasp kinfe and told me not to tell my mother. :-P
We may be getting somewhere!
Was your dad Homer? :-P
ha ha
dont do what donny dont does.
hmmm, they could have made this simpler.
that was one of the best simpsons ever :p
What's a clasp knife? Sounds a bit gay to me :p
They're Battle R.A.T.S or Starriors (in UK). Hmmm, turns out there was a Marvel comic connected to them and they were Zoids-related. They were also robotic so I think I'm muddling the action figures from something else with the vehicles here.
I'm pretty sure I had the Grapplor, Starshooter and Striker vehicles.
Here's the disc shooter.
Now I just need to try and think where the action figures were from. Back to the archive...
Thanks for your help guys and apols for a possible mix-up/wild goose chase. I'll report back when I find those other pesky figures
Didn't the figures have the same little silver or gold people inside their heads that you got with the Zoids toys as well (but unlike the Zoids you couldn't get them out? Well unless you smashed them open anyway)?
I remember these being knocked off by cheapo toy companies as well, I remember Blade being available with Purple limbs instead of red, and Devastator being available with blue limbs instead of red. But they were called something like "el mighto del roboto", and looked like the paint contained large amounts of lead :D
Yep, they did have little gold people in the cockpit and I don't think the plastic could be removed (without force anyway ;)).
It's funny how things appear cool in the memory and then when you see them again they're spindly, badly formed plastic atrocities.
I think a lot of these action figures had cheap knock-offs done and half the time your parents couldn't tell the difference so you end up with some cruddy deathtrap with metal sticking out and noxious fumes being created when the batteries inevitably corroded :p
