  • I used to live in Roath in Cardiff and they filmed loads of episodes of Dr Who just round the corner from me. The Idiot's Lantern was in my mate's street and the whole street were ordered to move their cars out (unless of course you had a pre-1953 motor of course ;)).

This scene from the movie 24hr party people was filmed on the roof of the building I used to be the property manager of in manchester, I'd go up their to eat my sarnies and admire the view(?) of Manchester on my lunch break....if you were lucky you could see some shenanigans going on in the Sasha's Hotel rooms opposite.

The building had a dance studio on 4th floor and had a lot of 'star's' come and go..'take that' used to practice there when they were first becoming popular...even went for a pint or 3 with them in the Unicorn pub next door...not sure I should have really mentioned that though...

It's been converted into apartments now.

EDIT: I used to grow my tomatos under those glass skylights you can see in the vid.

which is worrying as I had a g/f in manc at the time they were filming 24 hpp.. (in 2000) BUT it was close to the hacienda, I used to stay.. that view is more in town right?

Fear not, I'd already moved over here before they filmed it, Sashas used to have a live croc in their lobby which nearly ate me one drunken christmas party when I climbed in it's 'pit' because it was giving me the eye (no crocs were harmed psj).

Yeah Church St, just around the corner from the Arndale near where the indoor market used to be.

Pall Mall house, 20 church street to be exact. The owner also owned the mill that used to be next to it which is now a car park, he wanted me and the other guy to go in at night and burn it down. It was a listed building and he'd been stopped from tearing it down by the council while they looked into it. (That's why if you go now you'll see half a wall left up in front of the car park, presumably so if any new building is built they would have to incorporate the remaining wall, right by where afflecks palace used to be).

Anyway me and the other fella that ran the place asked the owner how much he would pay us to burn it down (we had no intention of doing it just wanted to know how much)...he said '200 quid each' and grinned as if it was a fortune...

Well, Bognor is always the TV joke and is mentioned lots in Aussie and UK Soaps when one of the characters is going on holiday!

As for featuring on film/telly, apart from all the soaps, the most recent one was Jekyl, with James Nesbit.

    Others:

    Hope it Rains (sitcom)
    007 - A View to a Kill

Bond is said to be coming back to Bognor with parts of Skyfall being filmed in the town.

yeah, quaint place, although most of mi old mates have either moved or died now so most of the people are different from when i lived there.
mi dad always wanted to see where i moved to after leaving sheffield so the last time he came up so i took him to see staithes, good job he came up then, 2 weeks later he was dead.

The only time the local area gets any coverage is when they're making a film based on a DH Lawrence book - The Rainbow, Sons and Lovers, Lady Chatterley etc.

There are a few clips of Eastwood from the eighties here, and a young-looking Melvyn Bragg. Both have changed much since then.

Not a lot in Northamptonshire. Part of a TV thing on ghosts (I thought it was the old Arthur C. Clarke series, but can't find the right moment in the YouTube clips) featured our local church and a hilariously poor 'ghost photograph' (search for 'Woodford altar ghost').

Also most of Kinky Boots was filmed around Northampton, but that's still miles from my old home. Shame, as it's lovely wood and river countryside.

    Bad dreams tonight :S
  • The recent Eternal Law series was filmed in York. I think it's already been axed after one series so it can't have been that successful.

It may well be a little old lady curtseying to the altar during a long exposure, but the thing about the heart is real - behind a little glass panel set in the back of one of the pillars, you can see a cloth-wrapped bundle that's a petrified heart. They found it hidden in the roof during some restoration work in 1867. But they obviously didn't do a great job as that bit of the roof had to be fixed again 130 years later, whereupon they found a time capsule hidden by the then rector, with letters describing the discovery of the heart and some contemporary newspapers.
