The Gits (1992) Frenching the Bully

Got around to it then eh?

It's a bit of a grower I've listened to it loads over the last 3 or 4 days, even the tunes I thought were a bit pap at first I find quite good now. Their first proper album Private Lubs (or Kings and Queens), ain't too good though, it's not loud enough. There's a tune they did that's supposed to be hardcore called something like "Spear and Magic Helmet", but I've got 3 albums by them now and it's not on any of them?

Before the other day I'd only heard about 3 tunes by them (all fast ones :D), and I didn't even know it was them that did them.

EDIT: Although I can't help but feeling that I posted up that I was listening to While you're twisting, I'm still breathing by the Gits, in this very thread about 2 or 3 years ago? Maybe it was a deja vu? But I feel like I remember typing it?

EDIT: EDIT: Just read your EDIT :D

Sounds good, wonder if that documentory is the one that was made before the cops caught Mia Zapata's killer? A guy I worked with overheard me talking about what I was listening to someone else and he came over and said he'd seen a documentory about The Gits, and that they hadn't caught her killer. But they did a couple of years ago.

Not really that keen on Amebix, one of those ones that I have to be in the mood for, but Jap Hardcore bands covering their tunes could be interesting. Might have to check that oot.

Also if you want a laugh check out Evil Stig (Gits Live spelled backwards), it's the remaining Gits, with Joan Jett taking Mia's place. It's very strange hearing Joan Jett perform the really fast tunes, but she sounds pretty good, she does hardcore pretty well actually

not listened to any Captain Beefheart for ages. got Bat Chain puller somewhere on CD. another artist that john peel introduced me to via his show, think he played one track off Trout Mask Replica every week for something like 26 weeks (or however many tracks there are on it) back when I was in school. remember thinking it was weird even for peel's show lol

strange name for a group. reminds me of Bill Bailey's fictional prog rock band 'Taunton' :)

Yeah, Troutmask takes a bit of getting used to, but well worth it :-P

I LOVE Beefheart. Saw The Magic Band live in York recently. Brilliant gig. John French does an excellent job on vocals and the band are so tight considering the weird stuff Beefheart cooked up. They played some of my favourites like Floppy Boot Stomp, Kandy Korn, Electricty and Moonlight on Vermont

Reminds me of back in about 93' or 94' when he played every track from "Music for a Jilted Generation" by the Prodigy everyday for 2 weeks at 1 track a night (or maybe give or take a track?).

I miss John Peel wish he had've hung around until he was in his 80's, I bet his tastes would've got really eccentric then, between Future Sound of London, The Bundu Boys, and the various random Cuban Mongo bands he would play he'd play hardcore, straight edge, psychobilly, monster boogie, eff knows really.

He's the one celeb who's died in the last 10 years that I really actually miss :(

His musical diversity literally knew no bounds, which made him more than awesome!!!

Peel was where I heard Melt Banana I think for the first time, and a few of the Jap Harcore bands that are still going. He loved his experimental Japcore

He used to like the Circle Jerks as well as far as I remember :D

I'm not keen on them, I tried to like em', Group Sex ain't a bad album, but they're a bit yankeefied for my liking.

yeah peel = legend in the true sense agreed. introduced me to: husker du, mudhoney, nirvana (heard and taped their 1st session form 89 before they were big:-)), fudge tunnel, polvo, trumans water (who I saw live and ended up having a pint with about 2 yrs ago), bomb disneyland (who then had to change their name to bomb everything), deviated instinct, god is my co pilot, orbital, etc etc . also a few bands I loved but have never heard of since, not even googling

I also like how there were certain bands he refused to play, like even though he played a lot of grunge he never played Pearl Jam or Alice In Chains because it was obvious they were the more MTV-ized sellout end of it. and I'm sure he never played Oasis, but he did play Blur...

Well I decided after talking to a wigger who works where I work, and talking to another white guy who genuinely grew up in the hood, but doesn't work where I work but does do his work where I work, and hearing them both freestyle a few times. I was in the mood to listen to some hip-hop.

So I created an R.A. the Rugged Man radio station.

Throwing some OK sh*t out there funnily enough, I was expecting all kinds of horrible wack sh*t to pop up, but no it's OK :D

The guy who doesn't work where I work but does his work where I work knows I used to be involved in such foolery. He wants me to rap for him

    I keep telling him f*ck off I ain't touched a mic in 12 years and I ain't going to again.....ever....no, no NO!

funny thing is the guy who grew up in the hood's lyrics are so f*ckin' real it's bizarre, and he's a really nice guy, the wigger's lyrics are all "F88k you motherf**ker I'll murk yer' neck with a biro, while I'm launching my cock up yer' bitch like a missle silo, am a f*ck you like a jew tryin' to enter cairo", funnily enough he's actually a bit of a dick?

    Rap's f*cked up? :D
