Walkers vs Golden Wonder

For all the crisp fans out there - do you prefer Walkers or Golden Wonder. I actually find Walkers crisps are a bit too hard but prefer Golden Wonder, i think the flavours taste better as well (although Walkers Cheese and Onion go well with a beer). My favourites are spring onion, cheese and onion and smoky bacon, but over the last few years its gotten a bit harder to find Golden Wonder (most places stock mainly Walkers).
I also like Seabrooks and recently discovered them in Morrisons.
So, what's your fave - Walkers or Golden Wonder?

    KP! :D

Nah, I prefer Golden Wonder to Walkers...I can remember you couldn't get Walkers up here for years, and then when they appeared they consumed every other crisp manufacturer in sight! KP, Smiths, Tudor....loads of 'em! Now you can only ever find Walkers in most places, so you're kind of forced to eat them..

Walkers and Golden Wonder are just brands of Frito-Lay and Tayto, respectively. On balance, I prefer Tayto.

That's 'cos Walkers, Smiths, & Tudor were bought by PepsiCo (owners of 'Lays' crisps in the US) who eventually re-branded everything they sold in the UK as Walkers. Over here on the continent they sell under the 'Lays' brand - identical looking packaging, just a different name on the bag.

My favourite crisps are probably McCoys (especially the meaty or spicy varieties). I always stock-up on them when I'm back in the UK. Also partial to Salt & Vinegar Squares & Walkers Pickled Onion.

I believe the Smiths name is still used on Bacon Fries, Scampi Fries, and Cheese Moments. Also the original Smiths Crisps in Australia still uses the name.

I'm quite partial to Hula Hoops as a treat from time to time.
I only eat Ready Salted crisps though.

Only crisps I have a dislike for are pringles(ok so it's more of a hatred).

Living in Ireland kinda sucks as far as crisps go. Loads of my old favourites have never been available(I've been here since 1990).

Walkers vs. Golden Wonder........again - due to lack of golden wonders here......not sure.

My current favorites are "Hand Made" in Tipperary - http://www.odonnellscrisps.com/about-seskin-farm/
They do an Irish Cider Vinegar and Sea Salt Flavour.......The best salt and vinegar EVER :) (although the odd pack isn't as loaded with flavour as usual).

Amazing a crisp related thread and no-one has mentioned Burton's Fish'n'Chips.

    Possibly the most missed snack.

Golden Wonder for me edges it, but I like them both. The GW ones tend to be more powefull in flavour, whilst the Walkers ones tend to be milder but arguably have slightly better flavour.

Though for me Picked Onion Monster Much are the best, and GW don't make them.

I think GW still do pickled onion but they are quite hard to find. I love the BBQ beef monster much!
All this crisp talk has put me in the mood to buy some, but it's raining and i can't be bothered going out!

there was a documentary about golden wonder a few years back.. ermm and their battle with walkers. I even think they had to sell one of the GW brands to walker to get money.. was it wotsits or something?

how walkers marketing it, is very strong. .they have a lot of reps etc.. so every shop has their products pretty much.. they could run at a loss for a bit to affect GW sales, if they wanted I bet.

I remember as a kid getting the big family bag of GW from the local offy for 50p or something.. and watching the professionals or something on a friday or saturday :) KP + Mc vities (united biccys) are local to me, you get the smell of biccy's as you past or used to..

the flavours of all of them have changed, or maybe our palettes have .. just not the same as when we were kids. they did them 10p crisps in the happy shiopper.. them cyan coloured ones and space raiders etc..

did like tayto's in ireland , but they are made in Lisbon in the north as a friend lives there.. you can even go on a tour of the factory :)

When I was a kid, Walkers seemed to come out of no where.

In our shop, it was all golden wonder, with a few kp's and smiths, then Walkers just steam rollered everything out the road.

There is nothing like a two hour swim, followed by a bag of crisps, chocolate bar, and cup of milky coffee (not latte') to undoo all the good work.

Golden Wonder were more popular as a kid, as someone else has said Walkers appeared from nowhere, took me a while to get around the, blue = salt + vinigar and green = cheese + onion switcheroo! oh then KP made a deal with the devil and gave us worcestor sauce crisps......... by far THE best crisp ever, trust me on this!

Yeah, they're ace. The Ham and Pickle and Lamb and Mint are also excellent.

These are my current favourites. Walkers Cheddar and Onion Crinkles. A very satisfying and flavourful crisp :)

These are great, though I haven't eaten a bag in what must be ten years. Haven't seen them anywhere, or at least, haven't noticed them.

As for Walkers/Golden Wonder... I only bought a 20-bag multi-pack of Golden Wonder on Saturday, and it's the first time I've eated GW crisps in years. I think I prefer them to the modern Walker's - I preferred crisps before the days of uber-fresh foil packs for some reason. Something honest about seeing the eighth of a potato you were given back when there was a little clear window in the bag.

Wasn't it Tudor who had a little window in the bag?
Those were the best crisps ever, i loved their smoky bacon flavour.
I was annoyed at first when Walkers changed the colour coding on the crisps but got used to it. I'd never even heard of Walkers till the mid 90's then all the other brands gradually faded away:sad:

Golden Wonder or preferably the original Smiths crisps when my time machine is working.

    Who made Horror Bones?

Walkers are okay nowadays, but they blew it big time when they first came out. I remember the day they made it into our local snackemporium. Gadzooks they were gross!

Yeah, I've had them and didn't realise they were the same thing. They don't seem as good or else my nostalgia receptors are messing up the taste memories again ;) No space pirates on these packs either - grrr!
