As far as I know, you can play an older version of it on the PC for free, but I don't think the current version is free. I've bought the Xbox version, and I'm liking it so far, despite the fact that I have very little idea as to what I'm supposed to be doing at the moment. Died fairly quickly on my last go - couldn't seem to build a shelter quick enough, and when I respawned I couldn't find the spot I'd been building in, so I'm starting a new game. I'll get the hang of this eventually... ;)

Yeah, current version is ?16 or thereabouts on PC.......I downloaded the demo the other night too and mucked around with it for a few hours...really addictive!

I still haven't got any cash yet though, so spent 240 MS points I still had on my account and downloaded CastleMiner from XBIG....which is basically a clone of Minecraft that lets you build stuff from blocks, but doesn't have any baddies or animals...You can visit other people's worlds online though and see what they've made! :)

Well, since my last post, I now totally "get" it. Very, very addictive - I'm gonna be spending lots of time on this one.

After my post earlier I had a look and youre right, the pc version is ?16. I just think.that 1600 points is a bit much, seeing as all other premium games are 1200. I did download the trial thougg to have a look and I wasn't impressed. I can see the atraction, but I just couldn't get away with it. I found myself throwing my fishing rod into the ponds rather than using it and tge one time I managed to get my boat to float, it floated off without me

Mabey I'll pick it up when it's on offer, but I'm not paying 1600 points on it...

Also what use is Sheva it's like you're babysitting a machete and broken bottle magnet she's crap, I've seen people whinging about her before, but jeez she really is hopeless, every 2 seconds "I need ammo" or "HELP!!!". I wish you could reply "Tough! You wouldn't need more ammo if your bullets actually hit what you were supposed to be aiming at!".

That's exactly why I don't like RE 5. I just wanted to shoot her in the f***ing head every time she'd waste ammo, grab whatever was available and waste it again.

I finally gave up completely when I reached a pair of chainsaw wielding sisters, ran out of ammo and died. Thought my previous save game would at least give me some ammo back, but no, zero ammo so what in the hell was I supposed to do, melee someone with a chainsaw?

A travesty in comparison to the masterpiece that was RE 4. Playing it with the Move controller makes it a little better, but you can't polish a turd.

And I read last week that Dead Space 3 is going to introduce co-op (both AI and human), cover fire, etc. That's gonna send the series the same way that RE 5 did.

The new Harley DLC could be quite good. Good to see a story based DLC rather than the challenges they've put out so far.

Oh, yeah, I noticed yesterday the patch being applied, so I was assuming there must be DLC coming our way... Didn't check the net yet, though. :)

Ermmm... The chainsaw weilding sisters (Bella Twins) are in RE4, not 5. They're on the split path after holding out at the house with Luis.

In RE5 there's one Chainsaw Majini in the shanty town (? - near the start), two seperately in the oil fields and one when you're having to fend off loads of Majini while that bloke unlocks the lift and door before the boat level.

And yeah, in RE5 the easiest way to kill the Chainsaw Majini is to shoot him til he staggers then run up and melee (possibly twice) then repeat ;)
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

thats what i was like, hmm, what am i meant to be doing, oh anything i want huh, ok, damn its 3am. :-P

one thing tht annoys me is the water in the game, id dug a big moat around my castle, and a channel from a nearby lake, and when i removed the blocks i expected it to just fill the ting, but it just dribbled out for a few blocks and stopped. looking on the wikki they changed how it worked (ie flooding every space possible) because people could end up flooding their entire map.

oh and the mine cart, its such a hit and miss affair to get the thing moving.

its such a deep game though, once you get past the what i meant to do phase, and my head fills with loads of projects id like to do in it.

It's the oil fields part I must be thinking of then, I remember the bit in RE 4 well as I've completed that loads of times. The bit in RE5 there's lots of machinery and ladders around (it has been a fair while since I last played it), and not as confined as the bit in RE4. Perhaps I defeated one and then the other came and I've got it a little confused with the Bella Twins.

Tell me about it - I can see it being another Elder Scrolls-esque 200-hour jobby!

Crikey! You've built a castle?! I made myself a little mud shack on the beach, which didn't seem like a great idea afterwards as every time I went to bed I'd get woken up by skeletons and zombies attacking me. So, I thought I'd replace the mud with stone - still waking up to zombies in my room - so my next job will be replacing the sand on the ground with stone (there was a pretty funny moment when one of those creeper things blew a hole in a wall and through some of the floor of my shack - must have spent an hour just sorting that mess out!). Then I might add another floor. Then perhaps I'll expand into the nearby forest. Oh, the possibilites... ;)

Have you tried joining anyone else's world yet? I couldn't seem to find any joinable games - perhaps you can only join people on your friends list?

Aye that's the oil fields. There's a 90% chance (I'm not going to say 100% but it was there every time for me) that you can pick up a mine in that area.

Kill the one that appears where you came in using guns/melees, pick up the mine from the platform with the valve nearest that entrance (the zip line from the left as you enter) then walk up the stairs at the back left to the locked door and use the mine there. When you use the other zip line and unblock that door (but don't open it) the chainsaw guy should land on the mine and die on easy or he'll take a couple of bullets to kill before he opens the door.

But I suppose there's no point in saying that as you'll likely not be playing it again anyways :p

You can also take out all the Majini that appear as you first enter and jump down by shooting the dynamite before he can chuck it at you.

yeah, ive been playing it non stop for a week now. i started off by digging myself into a cave, and setting up my home there, i then dug up and began my castle. it took me about 4 days to clear a mountain for it. built a moat x3 thick stone walls. and the monsters still spawn in, which is a problem.

when i slept under the ground i didn't have many problems with being woken up.

i think on the ground level they just spawn in randomly, which can be in your home, which i think how it works.

not gone online with it yet, id be worried about people coming in and messing my stuff up, maybe everyone is busy getting their worlds ready before them start inviting people. or maybe its having teething trouble, i ve seen it before when a game gets realeased it take time for the online stuff to sort itself out.

those creepers are a pain, they are like suicide bombers. :-P

That is a bit of a problem, especially as the tutorial makes out that once you've built your shelter, you should be safe at night. I might then just make my bedroom on the first floor, and a small staircase leading up to it that you need to jump onto (I assume zombies and skeletons can't jump?).

I did have a bash at digging way underground to see if I could find some caves, but I didn't find anything, just ran out of tools, which was annoying becuase it took an age to dig back out with my bare hands! However, when I was mining stone from under the beach, I could hear something making a strange gurgling sound, so I'm thinking there is something down there somewhere - I'll have another look later. :)

    yeah they can jump

the gurgling noise was prolly the water above.

do you have torches in your shelter, it makes a difference, if its all lit up it stops them moving in too close at night. stick a few out the front too to discourage them further.

It definitely wasn't a water-like gurgle, more of a monster's gurgle, with perhaps a bit of groan thrown in too. A bit like "Him Upstairs" from Trap Door, but with a bad case of indigestion.

Yeah, I've got torches inside the shelter, one by the door and another by the bed. I'll stick a few more up, especially on the outside wall, next to the door.

maybe build a fence around your home, nothing can jump over that ive found.

Right, cheers for the heads up, I'll stop mining stone from that spot then until I manage to fashion me some armour and weapons. Actually, come to think of it, I noticed a similar gurgle coming from the walls of the castle in the tutorial world. I just assumed it was some sort of audio bug as there wasn't a soul in sight.

Fence. Yes, that sounds sensible. Didn't think of that.

to be honest, when i was doing my castle i got so sick and tired of having to go to bed, that i turned the peaceful mode on, so nothing attacked me, i got it finished and turned it on again.

they are handy for the things they frop, and if you are underground and hear one, it means there is a cave near.

oh and a great tip i got off the web, is in a big cave, put your torches on left hand walls, then when you want to leave keep the torches to the right. they aren't like skyrim, they are random, so getting lost in one is a real possibility. ;)

In that case, I'm definitely making me some weapons and getting down there to kick some monster butt. It sounds like it's about five metres away from my shack, so I don't think I'll have far to dig.

Good tips though - I get lost very easily at the best of times, so that little tip will be handy.

Still playing Resi-5, but I think I might just call it quits now and go to bed?

My house has circuit breakers, and you can't have the toaster oven and the microwave on at the same time ever, but you especially can't have them on together if the PC and the PS3 are running as well. So what happens? I hit the boss with a mine and knock him down, pump my last few shotgun rounds into his tail, he dies, and the cutscene begins. Less than a second into the cutscene the power goes off, the wife turned the f**king microwave on so now I have to do the boss all over again.

.....and that my friends is why I'm putting the pad down today, or I'll end up moonstomping my PS3 to death.

Oh I've also worked out how to make sheva useful, fill her inventory up with all the types of grenades, and let her have all the handgun ammo, that way you get the rest, she shoots everybody with the handgun, and never throws the grenades. Make her do things like carry the lamps, push the whatever out of the way, and keep all the herbs to yourself, blah blah.

It's like trying to get rid of someone you don't really like without hurting their feelings :D

not sure how far, but the game world is pretty limited (the pc version is infinate) you can walk from one side to the other in about ten mins. and there is a bottom, i dug right down and hit bedrock. ;)

Been playing mincecraft for a long time now. By the way your tower wil be very high if you keep going! I have the PC version and I usually run a texture pack to make the graphics look better. I have always wanted to set up or join an online world. It would be great to have a speccy themed world. Afterall it will be easy to make some nice statues of famous Speccy characters.

So I bought Minecraft yesterday, and have now spent about 10 hours mucking around with it already!

I'm getting the random monsters spawning in my shelter too, but it seems to depend on where my bed is and whether it's near a wall or not!?!?

Anyhoo, so far I've dug my way in to the side of a mountain and managed to unearth a huge cavern, and so I built my house just outside it so I can go and mine all the goodies out of it...

As far as multiplayer is concerned, it seems you can only join people on your friends list when they're playing a game. If anyone sees me playing and wants to join, feel free...but be prepared to be ignored while I just continue trying to build things! :D And you can build things in my game too if you like, but if you destroy any of my hard work I might not be to happy.....

That sucks a little bit, with the PC version being inifinite and all.

I was mining earlier, near where I heard that monster (with it switched to peaceful mode), and I fell right through the ground and into a huge cave. It was actually a bit creepy, plunging straight into darkness, with the only torch I took with me stuck on the wall where I'd been mining above! Note to self: carry more than one torch next time. :D

its a big shame you cant have a wolrd we can all play in together like they do on the pc. i guess someone could leave his xbox on all day and we could all play there. although instead of playing it'd be more like 'bridge on the river kwai' :D
