Well, here in Germany the only Speccy mag I could get my hands on was Crash, and I?m certainly not unhappy about it. But I only liked it till May 1989, after that it was getting crappier with each issue. Especially the screenshots just SUCKED in the last years - bad colour printouts and interpolated color-mishmash-pixel rubbish (look at any 1991 ish and you know what I mean, just terrible). The covers also went downhill with less and less detail.
Can?t really comment on YS or SU that much, I only got a few issues from the years 88/89 which I picked up in the Netherlands, and both struck me as pretty childish. Would have loved to see some really early ones of them (real mags, that is, not some website stuff).

Not being british is a bad deal with this subject, but I've browsed along the WOS database of the magazines and I'd say CRASH was the most similar to the one I liked most in Spain: MICROMANIA. (Now it's when my spanish fellows get me by the ears and throw me out of the window living on a sixth floor). At that time, being a child and not having so much interest about programming, just gaming, Microhobby wasn't so useful for me, and I think CRASH was the one who was more gaming-targeted, as Micromania was at that time. On these days, Micromania is pure rubbish, don't know if it is even live either.
There was a difference between Micromania and Crash: the former was maybe suspectingly orientated to give some very good reviews to same companies, always the same ones... Don't know if there were some under-the-table deals actually.
