It was always called the 'doofer' in my house. What do you call your remote control?

Have they tried turning his batteries round and smacking him against the coffee table?

In ours, it was always "el chisme" ("the thing") for my folks. Me and my brother preferred "the remote", because that's what it was. :p

When I was a kid my dad had a voice operated remote to switch channels, me.

    Turn it over,

    turn it over

    Turn it back

    turn it up

Get me a cup of tea.
