What is your Super group
Over the last week the PM of GB, Tony Blair has been answering text messages from all and sundry.
One that caught my eye was who would be in yur best Rock/pop group.
He copped off a bit by saying The Beatles and Clapton (good choices though they are), but how about submitting yours.
I thought the best way would be a quartet + 1, what the hell is that a HexTet?
Anyway, I belive that group should consist of:
1. Lead Vocalist.
2. Lead Guitar
3. Lead Bass Guitar
4. Drums
5. Keyboards/Percussion
For me
1. Freddie Mercury
2. Eddie Van Halen
3. Joey DeMaio
4. Phil Collins
5. Liberace
That did not come easy BTW

I'd have to think for a while about this one.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

Mine would be:
1. Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden)
2. Joe Satriani & Dave Gilmour (2 lead guitarists!)
3. Flea (RHCP)
4. Mike Portnoy (Dreamtheater)
5. Jon Lord (Deep Purple)
Obviously, because of the mixed genre background of the members, I have no idea what the band will sound like - probably shite! :)
Bytes:Chuntey - Spectrum tech blog.
The wurzels errrrrm
*gets coat*
2. Angus Young (AC/DC)
3. Steve Harris (Iron Maiden)
4. Neil Peart (Rush)
5. Jon Lord (Deep Purple)
or
1. Bon Scott (AC/DC)
2. Steve Vai
3. Geddy Lee (Rush)
4. Ian Paice (Deep Purple)
4. Don Walker (Cold Chisel)

2. Frank Zappa
3. Flea
4. Jon Bonham
5. Him out of Abba
Karingal - you've got some good choices there - I agree with a lot of those - especially Geddy Lee/Neil Peart/Ian Paice etc.
I'd go for:
Vocals: Ronnie James Dio
Bass: Geddy Lee
Guitar: Jimmy Page
Drums: Ian Paice
Keyboards: Jon Lord
Heavier bands don't seem to go for keyboard players, so I'll choose a second guitarist ;)
Vocals: King Diamond (Mercyful Fate)
Bass: Cronos (Venom)
Guitar: Piggy (Voivod)
Guitar: Bill Steer (Napalm Death/Carcass)
Drums: Dave Lombardo (Slayer)
THOUGH....IGNORE ALL THAT.... THE BEST SUPERGROUP LINE UP HAS TO BE....
Vocals: Dave Vanian
Guitar: Captain Sensible
Bass: Patricia Morrison
Drums: Pinch
Keyboards: Monty Oxymoron
...as I'm going to see this band tomorrow night...!! :)

It's time to re-assess "Bytor and the Snow-Dog". Listening. . .Listening. . .Yup, still as sh*te as ever :-)
(Cue legions of Rush fans kicking my door down)
I think need to polish my ban-hammer...
Anyone who doesn't rate McCartney as a bass player automatically discounts themselves as having anything approaching a valid opinion about the instrument in my book. :p
Thanks, karingal.
:-D
C'mon, the amount of people now (shhhhh. . .d*wnloading "Bytor and the Snow-Dog", SOMEONE is bound to like it) ;-)
My apologies, McCartney is indeed a legend (and a captain, and a leader. . .oooh, hang on, no, that's John Terry. . .)
Who is in all honesty, probably a better bass player.
WHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
I WILL regret this in the morning / when I eventually wake up.
Was that a Rush lyric? Should be.
Bottle of wine finito, 1.56 am, do I have another? Will talk drivel for another 2 hours at least if I do (LET'S HAVE A POLL!)
/me sneaks off to bed and hopes nobody notices :D
yadda yadda yadda "meticulous viticultural practices"
yadda yadda yadda "enviable reputation in the" yadda yadda yadda "appellation"
"An excellent accompaniment to fish, shellfish and light salads"
Doesn't mention how it goes down with Aldi Tortilla Chips (69p, btw, boys and girls, NO, I don't work for them) or indeed, Gold Whispas, but hell, the night is, indeed, young)
Anyway, back on subject, picked up a cheeky little 5 year-old the other day. . .
Happy Happy Happy.
(Worth the wait cos it took me 20 minutes to open the bloody thing).
;-)
Bass: Paul McCartney
Rhythm Guitar Neil Finn
Lead Guitar: Neil Young
Fiddle: Seth Lakeman
I bet you have a hangover now!
F*ck up at work (not my fault), now have to rectify it.
I do NOT do mornings (especially Sunday mornings). (It's taken 7 minutes just to write this post).
Live and learn, in the rich tapestry of life.
Is that a Rush lyric?
And yes, zx1, to paraphrase Richard E Grant in Withnail and I, I have had a bottle of "The finest wine known to humanity" and "I feel like a pig has just shat in my head"
Seriously, though, point me to a Beatles / Wings tune that has some good bass fret frottage and I might change my mind about The Luckiest Man Alive (Tm).
Doubt it though but you never know. :-)
