rick robson (YS reviewer)

edited June 2012 in Chit chat
I always liked his reviews. just browsing this one for Spike

http://www.ysrnry.co.uk/articles/spike.htm

it says at the end: "*Ed's note: this was unfortunately Rick's last review before his early demise"

but then after that on the page it says

"Rick Robson has kindly authorised this site"

that doesn't make sense. is he still around? a few google searches turned up nothing. hope he hasn't passed away

Lol. That's just a joke from the editor after he said this about her in the article...
t's a bit like the magician's trick with the wand and ball, where neither seem connected yet both are inextricably linked - much like our T'zer's brain and mouth.*

'Doh... should've realised that. thanks . I thought it was an edit from Nick H...

I've been doing a bit of research on ex YS reviewers and managed to find a few interesting things like David McCandless 'Data Visualization' speech (worth watching imo, here if anyone's interested.) - but zilch comes up about rick robson.

I often wonder where many of the old YS reviewers and now, people such as David 'Hold my Hand' Wilson, T'zer, Marcus Berkman, Linda Barker, Phil South, Matt Bielby and Jon North (who did the pokes section).
I know that Jonathan Nash (Pillar) used to be a member of this site but he seems to have vanished into the unknown.

Jon North was here for a while, Marcus Berkmann is a well known journalist, Phil South is trying to inspire the next Charles Dickens and Teresa Maughan is into boy bands (whilst also bringing up a family).

typical woman eh, just using the spectrum as a springboard into the world of glamour and glitz

I remember reading a few years ago about Rich Pelley doing some mad stunt involving something like eating two Xmas dinners per day for a week and almost dying.

I remember when the credits at the end of 'The Movies' game Matt Bielby was listed as a writer, there was a couple of other YS writers but i can't remember their names, its good to see their still in the computer games business.
Does anyone remember an Artist that worked for YS in the later years called Marianne Booth? (i think). She was hot!

    she's in this pic
http://www.ysrnry.co.uk/photos/page10.htm (bit too large to post)

on a side note am I right in thinking 'Rachael Smith' and 'Gwyn hughes' were both pseudonyms of the same person? sure I read that somewhere...

    edit, from YS on wiki:
writers of the time included John Minson (writing under various pseudonyms, including Gwyn Hughes and Rachael Smith
weird considering 'Rachael' even had a pic

I always knew Roy Wood hadn't thought that song through properly.

Wasn't there a former writer who stopped by WOS and left this place telling everyone how they would die? (this is just an expression). Can't remember if he used to work for YS or the other mag which shall not be named.

That photo was a blast from the past! That little baby will be a grown up woman now. And the rest of the people in the pic probably have grey hair now!

Are you thinking of Simon "spectecjr" Cooke, whose lasting legacy on WOS was the phrase "You, sir, are a buffoon"...?

On a side note I stepped out of my front door the other weekend and Roy Wood was putting stuff in his Chelsea tractor across the road! His daughter (Holly Wood lmao!) has lived across the road for years.
